I recently bought LVW-5005 in US and they told me that they could use it in India. I seem to have problem. It appears that I can play back certain CD's. Here is some background - They broadcast in PAL and the TV is PAL. I did set it up as PAL system (system setup). I then tuned it and when I tuned - I seem to get most of the channles - in black and white and no sound.
I still went ahead & try to record it and it errors on right top -"wrong type signal". Am I doing something wrong.

I then went to system set up and changed to NTSC. I retuned and it is still the same. i.e. pictures in black and white and no sound. However, it did let me record the prob - ofcourse in black & white and no sound.

Do I need a convertor? any help is appreciated. Thx [/b]

    Did you set your location?

Sounds like it is set to receive NTSC signals.

  3. TV tuner is NTSC only. To record PAL channels you will need to use external "tuner" (for example VCR) and record from INPUTS.

I thought the same thing but according to the specs, this unit will accept NTSC and PAL broadcast with the tuner. The manual states that to select the format, you have to set your location.

Since I don't have this unit, I can't varify this.

  5. I am 99.9% sure that I am right. I was interested in this recorder when I was in US and wanted to move to EU. I asked this question on LiteOn forum where person directly from LiteOn answered.

This recorder can record from inputs PAL and NTSC. It can play DVD in PAL or NTSC, but TV-tuner is NTSC only. rr7246's issue just proves that it is like I was told.j

Actually you can still record from PAL ... you just can't use the RF input. But you can use the LINE inputs.

Most cable and satellite boxes have LINE outputs ... or you can use a cheap PAL VHS VCR as a "tuner" and use the LINE outputs on the VHS VCR to the LINE inputs on the DVD recorder.
