Hi everyone,
I just have two questions.
Is having after effects the same as having boris red or boris fx? If not what does boris fx do?
I'll be getting quicktime pro 7.0 when it comes out for xp. I'm just wondering if having this program will be the only way I will be able to render to H.264 with vegas.

Slow down and give more detail about what you are trying to do.
Boris FX and After Effects are advanced effects programs not editors. But you mention Vegas.
What are you trying to do with H.264?
What is your process and target? -
Ok,
I was just wondering what after effects and boris were.
In terms of H.264 i've heard that its way more efficient at encoding data. So I figure I can encode all my xvid and divx files to H.264 or VC-1 to save some space.
Would I be able to do this? -

Compression always works best from a clean first generation source.

As its name suggests, After Effects is an application for visual effects or whatever you call'em. There's absolutely - as far as I know - no effect After Effects cannot do. You can think of it as a Photoshop for motion pictures and/or the video industry. There are other applications like After Effects such as Discreet's Combustion 4.0 / Inferno and Digital Fusion. Combustion interface is different from what everybody is used to get with NLEs (non linear editors) such as Vegas or Premiere; I mean, the timeline has a different approach there, but the application rocks.
Boris Red is a professional software that can do many effects and it is unbeatable for making titles. It takes time to learn Boris but I 'm sure it's worth despite the fact it's very, very expensive.
Boris FX is another version of the same application, but much more simple. I guess Vegas 6.0 comes along with Boris FX (good to make your titles too) but you have to buy it separately to unlock its functions - I'm not so sure abou this since I don't have Vegas 6.0.
Cheers! -
