Impossible Ripping CLOSER & THE MACHINIST

I'm very sad. I wasn't able to decrypt and rip DVD of the movies "CLOSER and THE MACHINIST" even if I used all the softwares I had, that are ANYDVD, DVDDECRYPT, DVDSHRINK, VOBBLANKER, DVDWASHER.

Anybody can help me please????

I know that Closer contains the newer copy protection of ArccOSS (however it is spelled) by sony. The latest version of AnyDVD as boldego mentions can rip it.

Also, try DVD Region+CSS Free if you have no luck with AnyDVD.

Why would you want to copy The Machinist?

The dialog in that movie is total crap.

the machinist ripped fine for me with dvddecrypter -latest and greatest version.
as for closer,import the dutch or italian .psl files:

** to use the .psl files,make a notepad doc,call it "name of movie.psl".
copy and paste the text including "PSL2" then save the doc.
in decrypter,select "file mode",then click file,protected sectors list,import,and guide it to the .psl file,and rip.

or you could use something like dvd2one to remove those troublesome cells

worked for a friend of mine,but cant understand why anyone would want to backup this POS movie,thats one for a 1 watcher,then back in the case for ever.

I'm with you - Sony/Columbia/Tristar would be better served if they spent their efforts and resources putting out better products instead of annoying their customers. "Closer" is maybe worth a $1 rental - but that's about it.

Using DVD2One v1.52 with AnyDVD will rip any movies!

Somehow, methinks it was not the Region 2 edition of Closer, though... not, at least, if you were backing up the entire disc.

The Region 2 version of "Closer" (which is what several of us suspect we may be dealing with, here, since it just came out), is the DVD that has the latest modified version of Sony's ARccOS copy protection. This "modified" version made use of "structure protection" errors to cause the various rippers to stop every time. They again changed the actual structure problems, though. It was a different scheme (slightly) than the earlier Region 1 DVDs which had this same form of copy protection, such as "The Forgotten."

DVDShrink will choke on this disc. In fact, this is one of the very few discs that will choke the latest version of DVDDecrypter (unless you amend the .PSL file in DVDDecrypter).

DVDShrink cannot read this (complete) disc, if it is Region 2.
