    How do I use ifoedit to set the default for subtitles to "off" on a dvd that has english subtitles. It is defaulting to subtitles "on" Can I change something to set them to default "off" somehow?

    Yes, you have to add a command to your pre-command area in the movie PGC. I would use PgcEdit instead of IFOEdit, it's much much better for that kind of stuff.
    Open the DVD, find the movie PGC, then insert a SetSTN command in the pre-command area, it's a breeze with PgcEdit...

    Thanks jeanl. I downloaded the latest version, played with it a bit over the weekend, and it appears to be very powerful - and with a little practice I expect I can learn to use it effectively.
