  1. tidbit: i just found out lastnight I can finalize DVD-R's into DVD-Video and watch them on other DVD players.......

    1. Can you finalize DVD-Ram's and DVD-RW's?
If you can, how do I finalize them?
If not, why can't I finalize them?

    2. Is it possible to make Duplicate copies of DVD-R's, DVD-RW's and DVD-Ram discs?
If so how do you make duplicate copies of DVD-R's, DVD-RW's and DVD-Ram discs?

    3. Can you make duplicate copies of DVD-R's, DVD-RW's and DVD-Ram discs after they are finalized?

    4. On a Write-Once Format DVD-R say if you have your DVD Recorder on SP mode = 2 hours of recording time and I use 1 hour of time and stop the recording and had 1 hour left of recording on SP mode would I still be able to use up that one hour or would it be lost because you have to use up the 2 hours when you first record on the DVD-R?

i would really appreciate your answers!

    1) i'm not sure about dvd-ram, but you can finalize dvd-rw's. there should be a place in the dvd recorder menu's to do that.. on my pioneer it's in the disc setup menu.

    2) yes, dvd decrypter. iso->read, iso->write i believe they need to be finalized first

    3) refer to 2

    4) you can record in all the different modes until the disc is filled up, and then you'll need to finalize it. as long as you dont finalize, you can still record (until you've ran out of space).

  5. i checked on my dvd-rw's setup menu but they didnt give the option to finalize.....

so from now on i should probably only buy dvd-r's if i chose to finalize them and watch them on other dvd's?

i just checked out the manual for this recorder, apparently you can only finalize dvd-r discs.. which is pretty weird to me.

does it record in dvd-vr, or only dvd-video?

well in the manual it said in dvd-video!

so should i only buy dvd-r's from now on? i will if that is my only choice but i'd rather use a dvd-rw to erase anything i dont need since the dvd-r only lets you use it once.

    by the way i was wrong, i have never used a dvd-rw, i thought i didnt but I've used dvd-r's and dvd-rams.

  8. The E-30 doesn't record RW, only the new Panasonics do. That recorder is a 2002 model.

ouch, thats tough. so my only choice is dvd-r huh? so i gotta watch what i record?

  10. You can buy a new Panasonic player, they are RAM compatible, then you can use RAM discs. I think the new Panasonic recorders are around $200. You might be able to find them for less if you look around, or maybe someplace like E-bay or Amazon marketplace. You can buy a lot of DVD-R discs for the price of a new recorder.

The E30 has serious quality flaws anyway, not just Panasonic issues, but IRE problems too. Your videos are too bright, lack color, and lack contrast. All E30 units show this flaw, though it's not noticed on the recorder. You see it when playing discs in other players.

I'd say it's time to bury that unit and upgrade to something newer and better. Get a -RW or +RW unit, from either JVC, Pioneer or LiteOn.

  12. Well, my e30 records stuff that plays just fine on other players.

e30's record to -r or dvdram only.

The E30 has a IRE flaw, and is on all units. Nobody can have one that is not affected. The video is not set to USA NTSC standards, it's wrong, set to Japanese NTSC standards.

  14. You keep saying that, it has no such problems on any of my equipment. The color on the JVC is far worse.

Panasonic even admitted to this flaw, I fail to understand how users won't acknowledge it.

This was a major flaw, and still isn't fixed to be quite honest. They've messed around with the luma to counter-act the IRE problem, which is why newer Panasonic recorders all have slight shifts into the green or red range.

The E20 and E30 both had the IRE problem. It was "fixed" after that, on latter models. They keep trying to improve the USA NTSC models, but this last one, the ES10, really sort of sucked, the tint shifts got worse instead of better. Oops.

I honestly believe Panasonic engineers have their heads firmly planted up their ass (totally divorced from reality), because the NTSC models are clearly designed for Japan only, and half-ass fixed for the USA markets. And then they have this odd lack of knowledge as it concerns bitrate and a need to reduce blocks instead of "adding detail" (which is the root cause for the blocky images). Inadequate bitrate, inadequate encoding for less than highest resolutions.

Feel free to ignore all this information, but it's very apparent when compared to other machines from other makers. I mean, seriously, I have a $80 Centrios unit that looks better than a Panasonic does. How sad is that? And it's good up to 3 hours worth of video.

Copies of a Panasonic RAM disc recording made on a PC won't necessarilly work on a stand-alone. The start menu becomes corrupted somehow. I have one stand-alone which will play them and another which won't.

  17. ok can anyone tell me if there were any future DMR's of this same model? or can anyone find me a Panasonic model that lets your record DVD-R, DVD-RW and DVD-RAM and lets you finalize DVD-R and DVD-RW?

by the way is there any DVD Recorder that lets you finalize DVD-RAM?

  20. You will get whatever people are willing to pay for it

DVD-RAM does not need to be finalized, ever, so ther eis no way to do it.

so what is the purpose people buy DVD-Rams? because i dont believe mine or any playback to DVD-Video do they?

    Quote Quote
  22. The "purpose" is an erasable format that you can record stuff, watch, then record over again and again.

THe DVD recorder obviously supports playback if it can record DVD-RAM. Some new DVD players support DVD-RAM as do many DVD drives for your computer.

Think of it as a low end Tivo or PVR. Similar in some ways to DVD Recorders that have hard disks, except you can't burn direct from DVD-RAM to DVD-R since there is only one drive.

You can also (at least on my E50) edit the shows (strip commercials) and do all kinds of other functions on DVD-RAM that you cannot do on DVD-R.

Did you read the sticky at the top of this forum?
