  1. Hello All
First of all thanks for taking the time to read and maybe reply to my post.
What I'm trying to do is rip songs of my music dvd's to make a music dvd of the songs i like best. Sort of my version of a greatest hit dvd as i have quite a number of music dvd's.

I have been ripping the songs of the dvd's to mpeg 2 using both dvdecrypter and VideoReDo.
when i have the mpeg2 files on my Hard drive they work fine.

I used ulead video studio to burn a dvd with the individual songs on a dvd but not all the songs have sound. Although the files have good sound when on the HD.

Any sugestions on what could be wrong or better programs to use
    would be appreaciated. Thanks all

Can UVS handle AC3 audio as input ?

DVDDecrypter should tell you what type of audio each clip has, depending on the way you're ripping them.

I'd rip in IFO mode and use stream processing to just rip the chapter that pertains to the clip that you want - this should eliminate the VideoRedo step. You can even demux to an M2V and a WAV/AC3/MP2 file, ready for importing straight into your authoring software if for some reason your software does not accept VOBs directly.

Maybe try a different authoring package such as TMPGEnc DVD Author (30 day fully functional free trial) and see if the problem remains.

Either that or check your MPEGs using the latest GSpot Beta (2.52 I think) and see what types of audio the problem files have and compare them against the ones that work properly.
    If in doubt, Google it.

  3. Thanks for the help jimmalenko
Yes i downloaded gspot checked the mpeg 2 files
it appears the ones that don't work are the AC3 ones
those that do work are LPCM_audio.
although i really don't understand the differance still learning bit at a time
    I'll get there eventually.
Might try to rip again and see if i get the option to choose the sound track
AC3 or LPCM and just choose LPCM.

Am downloading TMPGEnc now to have a look at but i really like Ulead video studio it has some nice touches and is easy to use.
    Anyway thanks again..

The vast majority of DVDs will be AC3, and if your authoring software cannot accept AC3 as source, firstly IMO it is a poor authoring software, but secondly (and more importantly), you need to decode the AC3 to a WAV file, and then feed this into your authoring software instead.
    If in doubt, Google it.

Make a new track in tmpgenc dvd author( step 3. in this image ). You can't mix 4:3 and 16:9 in same track/vts.

  7. Thanks Guys
    I'm slowly getting there
    I have another problem now
TMPG author has encounted a fatal error which it cannot ignore

The combined bitrate of the clip exceeds the upper limit for a standard dvd
the Combined video and audio can be no more than 9848 bps

    some of mine are 11336 & 12104

Can these be changed or reduced or do i have to rip them again and change some setting somewhere.
Really appreaciate the help guys thanks.

  9. Thanks again
Have tried all above solutions without success

It appears my problem is that the files i have as VOB and duplicated as Mpeg2
Have Dolby digital milti channel audio and when i import them or load thm into a Authoring program they cannot play the sound.
Can someone advise on a different software that may be able or is compatable with ac3 Dolby digital audio.
    Thanks for the help

They don't have sound in the preview, or ...... ?

That is normal for TMPGEnc DVD Author AFAIK if you don't have the AC3 plugin. It will still keep the AC3 sound in the final output, though.
    If in doubt, Google it.

  11. Thanks Guys
Still having a problem with the bitrate on some clips being to large
    when using TMPGEnc.
I Don't understand why or how the bitrate is so large. Know of any lessons on them somewhere on site. i would appreaciate direction.
I Tried a program called DVD santa last night and it seemed to work quite well no bitrate problem only thing it dosen't have menues or effects
you can place between your clips but it does get an end result.
    Thanks again Guys.

Just choose "ignore" and carry on. Most likely you will not have any problems with the final product.
