Are there DVD-R brands that have either a silver-colored or "normally" CD-colored writable layer? By normally CD-colored I meant the most common colors seen in most CD-Rs (I think they are silver, platinum, can't remember...)
And by "media color" in the DVD-R list does it mean the burnable surface's color? Sorry, I'm just really new to these kinds of stuff...

Sorry. They are most commonly purple. I haven't come across any other colours and I dont think there are any.

DVD-R's will always be purple (or even a really deep pink in some cases). This is due to the dye that is required with DVD-Burning. This wasnt the case with CDs, however, which is why you see those colored.
Why is it important to have silver-colored bottoms? Only reason I can think of, is trying to pass off discs that were burned, as if they were pressed...and in general...you might wanna avoid that.

Nah it's not that I want it to be passed off as it was pressed...
I was about to back-up games for my PS2 when I noticed that my PS2 (already modded) can't play those purple-coated DVD-Rs... wishful thinking on my part I guess...
Anyways thanks guys... -
It probably can if you change your media - some PS2's were notoriously picky about what media they would work with.
Try another media manufacturer (NOT brand, you might get the same thing) and see what happens. -
As far as dvd-r.. I use prodisc...ritek, and the new tiayo yuden.."Matrix" and never had a compatibility problem... I burn them at the highest speed and they play crystal clear. Dvd's are recorded using frequencies... A particular frequency affects the dye and changes it's properties. That's why they're colored. As for games on Dvd... I'm not sure if your anti-copyright technique is working. The best program I've seen is one called Blindwrite...Made by a company called VSO.... It kicks the hell out of Safedisc copyright because it doesn't process what it reads...It'll make the bad sectors and weak sectors the same places on the burnt disc... Ain't that a Bitc*!

I like the quality, but I really like Ritek. The last Ritek I bought from supermediastore.com were so rich in color that I can tell which ones in my collection are Ritek and which ones are prodisc....Automatically! However I'm just testing different media and the guy is really nice. He'll exchange them if I have any problems but I'm satified so far and I'll see long term effects. What I mean by that is: my experience has been long. Thousands of burned discs withen the last 1.5 years. I've tried so many different brands...I sell DVD's in my spare time and I also keep copies of everything I burn...after-all I only have a half of terabyte worth of HD space and I have over 200 DVD titles. I've noticed that the Ritek DVD's are the only ones I can really get scratched and still retrieve the data with-out a problem but my consumers don't pay for the extras so they'll get what they pay for and that's "Matrix" or prodisc....Not Ritek!
