i've never burnt a film to dvd or cd-r so i know absolutey nuthin about nuthin. i don't have a dvd writer in my pc so i want to put a svcd film onto a cd-r and watch on my dvd. cd-r's only hold about 800mb of data so how do i put about 1600mb of data onto a cd-r? the answer better be simple like buy a wider cd, don't tell me a have to split the file or sumat.

Unfortunately, the answer is either split the mpg (womble mpeg vcr) or reencode the video at 1/2 the current bit rate, or forget it altogether.

splitting the mpeg file into two CDs is the only logical way. As reducing the bitrate will reduce the quality. Which may or may not be acceptable. You have to be the judge.
AVI-WMV-MPEG splitter from boilsoft will also split the file. Then use any VCD authoring tools to create your CDs.When I was born I was so shocked that I could'nt speak for 18 months. -
More than that, I noticed that people often spit SVCD movies on 3 CDs, to keep the bitrate high.
From the SVCD TMPGenc's wizard: "..about 55' movie fit on a 80' CD-R".
Therefore, I imagine that if you encode your SVCD movies at an adequate bitrate, you need 3 CDs , since often 1 movie = 120' and (from the wizard) 2 CDs = 2x55' = 110'.
I use this 'suggestion' and I personally prefer VCDs for > 110' movies and use SVCDs only if movie < 110', since having a movie split on 3 CDs is boring. -
I prefer SVCD for all movie, SVCD is better than VCD also if you use a low bitrate (1600 kbps).
