I need to convert almost all my old vinyl LP collection into WAV files – not only for later recording in CDs, but also to include some of that music in my home videos.

So, I have connected one available output (tape 2, in this case) from my AV Receiver into the line-in of the PC soundcard. Now, whatever the source is – phono, tape, radio, TV – I can perfectly hear the sound coming from the AV Receiver in the PC speakers. But when I try to capture the sound with, for instance, Sound Forge 8, to record it in the WAV format, this software does not detect the sound: the input meters on the Record dialog box show no incoming signal and the resulting data window shows, in fact, a stereo file, but with a straight line (one for each L/R channel) instead of the normal waveform.

I then tried to do the same with another dedicated software called Singulator (www.aipl.com/singulator) but the result was the same: no incoming signal on the input meters (but I still can hear the sound on the PC speakers while capturing).

In both cases, a WAV file is generated. But when I tried to play-it-back, there’s no sound at all.

So, it seems that’s a problem somewhere on the sound configuration of the PC (Win XP). Does anybody knows the solution?

    Thanks.

Something is turned off on your record settings under Windows - look in the volume controls under "options" and make sure the mute button isn't checked on either mic or line in.

Thank you Soopafresh! That was really the problem: the volume controls were all at zero! Now it's all recording fine.
