Hey again everyone. I was looking to buy a movie off of ebay and its only offered in PAL format.
From what I have read in other forums its pretty much impossible to convert a PAL dvd to a NTSC DVD+R.
I read Baldrick said you would have to rip each section and convert each piece individually or something to that nature.
Has anyone been able to convert from PAL DVD to NTSC DVD+/-R?
Any help would be appreciated.......also what exactly did Baldrick mean by this? I have lots of time so if time is a factor for converting I will be ok. Thanks for looking.

You can WATCH it in your computer, no problem.
You might even be able to watch it in your DVD player (worth a shot).
The issue is that if you DO need to convert it, a "movie-only" convert is easy and straightforward (albeit time consuming).
If you want to convert the WHOLE DVD (menus, extras, etc.) then it's nearly impossible, and DEFINITELY not worth the time it would take.

What Gurm said is right. What Baldrick said boils down to it would require you to completely re-author the DVD. Convert the video, rebuild menus, navigation, etc. from scratch.
I agree - not worth it. Maybe a NTSC version of that particular DVD will be available in future? There's no place like 127.0.0.1

I'm still amazed about Menus. The only DVDR's I own with Menus come from DVD5's. I never saw the point of keeping a menu. Some of the DVD9 menu's are cool, but since the extra's won't fit there's no point.
Pal DVD to NTSC DVD you can do, as Main Movie only, without too much trouble. To Be, Or, Not To Be, That, Is The Gazorgan Plan

Ok thanks for the help. Now here is my second question.
This DVD is actually a collection of a music videos from a band. Would it be one long movie do you think or would I have to treat each individual movie as one movie? I know there is really no way to tell until I would actually see it but just wondering if anyone has come across this. Thanks again.
And you are right......I really do not care about menus that much. All of my dvds I backup, I backup the movie only anyways, So I wouldnt care that much. Hell I could make some cheesy makeshift menu myself with MF2.

It really depends.
Take a look at it in DVD Shrink or whatever, to see how many titles there are. Even if it's 30 titles, it's relatively simple to batch up the conversion in TMPGEnc or something.
So yeah, if you don't care about decent menus, just do the conversion from PAL -> NTSC on the main movie (or each music video), and then reauthor with something simple like TMPGEnc DVD Author.

Hi,
Well, I found one very advanced method on how to do this... and it is possible cause I have tried it, but I've lost the link... as soon as I've completely tried it... I will re-write it so it's easier to understand... and than post it here... it allows you to convert a movie from PAL <--> NTSC keeping the menu's.
