I just burned my first 16x Taiyo Yuden DVD-R with DVD Decrypter. It froze right at the end during the syncronising cache portion. I'm not sure yet if it works. I'll have to test the disc this evening. Its the drive itself I believe. Running a Pioneer 109 with 1.50 firmware. Anyone had this happen and know how to fix it?

You sure it froze? It seems like the less you write to a disc, the longer the "Synchronizing cache" stage takes...

yeah pretty sure. I was leaving for work so I couldn't leave it but it was a full disc and after the burn speed went to finished synchronising cache set on 0% for 5 minutes before I canceled it. I closed Decrypter and the drive light was still on. I had to reboot the PC before it went off. It may be an issue with 1.50 firmware. I had DVD Info Pro freeze on me the same way when starting a speed test. I'll reflash to 1.40 firmware tonight and try again.

It evidently is Firmware related. I flashed back to 1.40 and reflashed to the official 1.50 since I was running Beta and still had the same problem. Reverted to 1.40 again and burned just fine. The Device Buffer fluctuates a fair bit near the end though. Regardless something is wrong in the 1.50 firmware that doesn't handle the TY03 discs correctly.

Found out Firmware 1.40 has the same issues, just not a frequently. Evidently there are problems with CAV medias. I have a NEC3520a that has no issues with the same discs so far.
By the way the device buffer on the 109 jumps up and down quite a bit on 16x media right near the end. the 3520a does the same thing all throughout the burn and sometimes the software buffer drops too a little. Is this normal? I'm starting to wish I hadn't gotten a whole spindle of 16x media. 4x was working perfectly no matter what I threw at it and the few 8x discs I've tried have done the same. 16x is having way too many issues for me. All 16x uses different write technique from slower medias doesn't it (CAV from what little I've picked up so far)? -
I've just encountered the same problem with Nero for the first time. Since it uses it's own ASPI (and I've been told its an ASPI problem when using Decrypter) it has to be a problem with the drive itself, be it firmware or hardware. My NEC3520A burns fine under the same conditions. It doesn't have as good a quality burn though showing far more PI errors than the Pioner burns when it does work correctly.

are you sure that your pc is up to x16 speed burns, that may be the buffer fluctuation problem.
what brand of x16 media are they,i tried a tub of datawrites, and they were hopeless, better results with x8 speed media at x12 speed.LifeStudies 1.01 - The Angle Of The Dangle Is Indirectly Proportionate To The Heat Of The Beat,Provided The Mass Of The Ass Is Constant. -
My PC should be well up to such speeds. I've seen lesser setups handle them with no issues. I'm using TYG03s. Taiyo Yudens. The buffere fluctuation is normal from what I've been told. It use to be worse with earlier firmware evidently. I have problems burning the same media even at 8x. Its just a problem with using CAV media near as I can tell.
