I've captured ONE video tape successfully so far (a concert from a promo tape a friend of mine has). The audio on the avi file sounds just perfect.
However, when I capture from other video tapes, or even directly from my tv (altho, the signal is passed through my vcr) - during playback of the sound, i get very low audio playback, but with a loud tv-frequency-sound playing back on top of it. I expect a little of this sound to be there on any vhs captures, as I go back - but should it be there when I'm capping from live tv? (it happens with broadcast and my satellite hookedup).
Is there some sort of audio configuration I'm missing out on? I use DVIO to capture as well.
(basically it sucks when I record a live tv show, musical performance - and then can't rip a live mp3, or have good audio in general on it).
Thanks for any help!

I'm not getting any of that noise out of cable tuners or VHS. There may be an issue with HiFi tracks on VHS tapes. Audio HiFi is the first to go noisy when tracking is off.
What happens if you record sound from a CD or DVD player? -
I haven't tried hooking it up - and the bizarre thing is, that the buzz wasn't there when i ripped something from a VHS rip - but when it's directly through live broadcast or satellite tv.. it's there.

You said you have the TV audio-out hooked up to VCR audio-in. If it's too soft, try turning up the volume on the TV. A lot of TV's audio-out levels, are also controlled by the main volume. This is of course, a bad design decision made by TV manufacturers. The RCA Audio input/output levels should remain at a constant level, like how audio amplifiers work. Does your VCR have an option to toggle the audio from Hi-Fi and Stereo? If so try that.
