  1. I have a DVD iso that I need to convert (to mpeg I guess) and split to fit on cd-r's. I have been all thru the guides and am overwhelmed by the info. I learned everything I know about converting, fixing, etc etc from this site (and a lil help from its members) and so i'm asking for help again.

I am familiar with IsoBuster and tmpgenc, but have never had to do this type of conversion so everything I know about these programs is useless. I thought converting the iso to bin/cue I could then extract the mpeg from them with isobuster but all i get are these audio_ts, video_ts files full of stuff I have never seen. I'm not sure where to go from there. I assumed once I got the mpeg I could use tmpgenc to fit it to cdr's but I cant seem to get the dang mpeg! I'm sure i'm missing something, I have dl'd several programs suggested in different guides but these new programs are all so foreign to me since im only used to tmpgenc and isobuster, I have used vdub in the past too. I'm looking for some clear cut instructions on this process. I just want to be able to watch this thing on my stand alone dvd player without the need for a dvd burner!

I hope I have made my issue clear enough, and any help would be greatly appreciated.
    Thanx in advance!

  2. The AUDIO_TS and VIDEO_TS folders contain the VOB (video object), IFO (information) and BUP (backup of ifo's) folders which the DVD player requires to play the DVD.

I have checked the guides section and come across this for converting DVD's back to MPEG for editing purposes,

How to convert DVDs back to MPG files or demultiplex DVDs for reauthor or reedit,

"If you have authored a DVD and you want to reedit or reauthor it without reconverting it again then just "convert" the DVD VOBs back to a MPG file or MPEG2, AC3, MPA, WAV elemantary streams(called demultiplexing) for easier editing and authoring. Some tools can also import DVD VOB files directly without converting to MPG files.2

I guess you are trying to convert to VCD/SVCD of which I have little knowledge, but thought that this guide maybe of help getting your required MPEG, although maybe you have already checked this out

Anyway, hope this is of assistance and good luck

  3. Thank you much Harryspadge... so far that guide has been somewhat useful. Yes, I am ultimately trying to convert to vcd. So far I have been able to convert the 5 VOB files to mpeg using this guide and they look perfect in Tmpegenc DVD author, but when I try to run each part in wmp only the sound works, no video. But one step at a time I suppose, now I need to figure out how to splice these 5 parts together to make one mpeg file. I think what I REALLY need now is the author of that guide (or someone else who has done this successfully) to help me thru the rest of the process not outlined in that guide. I'm going to keep fiddling with it, I promised my husband i'd have this ready to watch when he got hom from work at 1am tonight so I got several hours ahead of me If anyone else cares to weigh in i'd appreciate it!

  4. You can merge the 5 VOBS together using VOBMERGE or VOBEDIT.
I have used vobmerge recently and it seems to work and is pretty simple to use.
There is a link to it on this site somewhere (I dont think it is in the tool section yet) but if you do a search for VOBMERGE you should find it.
If not let me know and I will give you the link

PS: post your location in your profile, I like to know where abouts in the world my assistance is going :P just out of curiosity

  6. I merged the VOB files using VOBMerge, but tmpgenc DVD author doesnt recognize the new merged file. I'm going to set that step asside for now :P The original 5 parts Tmpgenc DVD Author gave me are currently running through Tmpgenc and converting successfully to vcd (meaning they are viewable in WMP, altho I took a big hit on quality so I think i'll go back and convert to svcd now that im getting used to the process). Only problem I have is they are 5 seperate video files, instead of one (or 2 which was the original intention, to fit the whole movie onto 2 cdr's). So what can I use to string these 5 parts together now? For some strange reason I remember using VDub to do something similar but that was 2 years ago. I assume I could just burn the parts together on the same disc, but id like the movie to run without any interruptions (other than changing from disc1 to disc2). I know somewhere in my head I have done or read how to do this before but it's escaping me now.

Thanks again for your help, maybe i'll have this finished soon so I can salvage some of the rest of the evening

    BTW, i'm in Mississippi, USA

  8. Well I finally got it done last night. Baldrick, your technique would have probably saved me several hours of work had you posted it sooner LOL but i'm not complaining, I learned something new and I got to watch my movie.

After the 5 parts were converted to vcd in Tmpgenc, I took all 5 parts back into Tmpgenc and spliced them together to create 2 files, used Vdub to cut out overlapping scene frames and burned it with Nero. I got one seamless movie on 2 cdr's...so mission accomplished! Thanx again for the help, and for this site... i'd be lost without it! :P
