    hi guys i have some HD xvid files on my computer and i was wondering if i hooked my comp to my HD tv via S-video could i watch it? i tried on a regular definition TV and there was no picture. i did a search and i couldn't find anything on this particular question.

    you should be able to view anything that you can view on your monitor. does other video work fine?

    other videos work fine...i'll dl a tool that shows the exact encoding of this file and post it up here. brb

  4. As long as you can play the video on your computer you should be able to view it via the TV output. You just have to get your graphics drivers configured properly.

    thanks..that was the trick. i had to update my video card drivers. .

    If you want to use S-Video the result will be 480i (NTSC) or 576i (PAL). It's the job of your display card to convert the screen playback to S-Video.

    Certain display cards will convert the desktop to 720p or 1080i component or VGA-HD or DVI-I.

    It's a display card issue.

    PS: Alternatively it's a hardware transcoder issue. Some advanced DVD players act as transcoders to HDTV output formats.
