i currently own a panasonic dmre55 and want to change to the sony
but i need some answers please
i record several films off sky and like to put 2 films on 1 disk with the panny at 4 hours the quality is bad and you see lots of blocks will the sony give a better playback picture quality
also is this quite a reliable machine or does it have lots of floors
thanks for your help

I am quite sure that the Sony will get you a better picture quality. I own a Panasonic right now and I am not that happy with the quality either. Mostly because I had a Sony HDD-model for a weekend and it was much better. I didn't try the 4-hr mode on the Sony though.
The Sony seems to have much better pre-encoding filters to remove noise, which should reduce blocks. The Panasonic seems to only apply filters on playback which of course is worse.
