I'm wondering which is more compatible with DVD Players and provides excellent quality and lasting life? DVD-R or DVD+R

Any comments would be great help!

And does DVD Shrink able to use DVD-R?

    Thanks!

What DvdhelpPlease was asking was which dvd media is the most compatable ,dvd-r seems to be more compatable with most older and newer dvd players . As for +or- media it is a matter of preference among users, and with dvdshrink you can use + or - I hope this helps and like sifaga said don't use cheap media blanks use good quality..

  5. Almost all the newer DVD players will play both formats so I don't feel one has any advantage over the other in regards to compatibility these days. I started out using DVD-R because they would play on my older Sony DVD player plus they were cheaper than DVD+R a year and a half ago. Today I use mostly DVD+R because I have a newer DVD player and DVD+R is slightly cheaper.

The best format to use is the one that plays in YOUR dvd player. Trying to second guess whether each and every other DVD player will play your home made DVD's is futile.

Basically it seems my DVD player can play DVD+ or - R, so that's good, but I just wanted to know the quality difference, if any. Also if Dual Layers are any better or worse in your opinion and experience?

I realize in dual layers DVDs they can catch an awful amount of dust on either side, so any comments at all would help greatly with your opinions on DVD+ or - R and duals.

    Thanks again!

I believe you are mixing dual layer with double sided. Double sided is a single layer on each sided of the DVD, and dual layer is 2 different layers on the same side of the DVD. Understand that DL DVDs are not as compatible with players as are single layer DVDs. DLs are also more than twice as expensive as Single sided DVDs. Double sided DVDs are very expensive, and never really caught on.

  11. Well I burn +r but have changed the booktype in my NEC3500A to be DVD-Rom for all my burns as -r media is what plays in all my equipment. Like others have said my new players play +r media just fine, but it will not play in my older dvd player unless I change the booktype to -r. Once I do that it plays just fine in my older equipment and I no longer have to be concerned about what type of media I have as my old dvd player thanks it is all -r.
