  1. Hi everyone,

I was thinking about buying a portable DVD player at Walmart. I saw they had Durabrand portable dvd player with a LCD and another LCD monitor, one for each head rest. Are these DVD players any good? Do they play Riteks DVD-R and DVD+RW? Any info would be useful.

Did a search for Durabrand, not much info anywhere on them.

    Thanks,
    TK

  3. Bought the Durabrand Venturer PVS-1960 (the 2 monitor set-up at Wally Mart). It is really nice for those of us who need front/back monitors for a vanload of kids.

Some issues did come up though. Reads "hollywood" DVD's fine. Hit and miss with my DVD+/-R's. Might have something to do with burning them all region free. But changing the unit to region free (using the hack) did not solve the problem. I only tried to burn 1 DVD (using DVD Shrink/Nero, BTW) at region 1. Some skips, but was OK. (My other home DVD players read these DVDr's fine BTW).

With the problem "burned" DVD's, the unit would play them for about 30 minutes, and then begin to hang. If any of you have any answers, it would be appreciated.

In the meantime, I have returned this unit to Wally Mart, and am in search of a 2 monitor unit that will not have problems with DVDr's...

Durabrand's customer service is a joke. I knew more about the equipment than the CSR did!

  4. I did buy the Durabrand PVS-1966 model. Not the PVS-1960. It has no problems playing my Ritek GO4s and Ritek's DVD+RW yet. I use DVD Shrink 3.1.7 and Nero 5.5.10.28 to burn. I have not seen it skip, but I am going on a family vaction on July 5th and will give it a good test then. Right now I use it as a second DVD player for the bedroom. I have watched about 15 movies on it so far.

Is your model the one that has the player/screen and the second screen, or the player and 2 screens (that's the one I had)?

  6. My is the player/screen and the extra monitor. Not the 2 monitor style. I wanted the one with a battery for sitting on the lap or moving around. It was a little more but I thought it was worth it.

  7. Cool, We're taking another trip in a week and I'll be picking this one up...

    Couple of questions:

Does the second screen come with a reasonably long cord (to stretch from middle seats to back seats)?

and do you burn your DVD's region free? I'm trying to figure out if this was/is the problem that I experienced before... (I use the exact DVDShrink/Nero setup you have, but have been using Maxell & Memorex DVD's)

    Thanks! Nord117

  8. The included monitor cable is about 6 1/2' long. I do burn region free with DVD Shrink

  9. OK...
Bought the Durabrand PVS-1966 model... Had the same issues with DVD-r's as with the PVS-1960. While my burned copies work great on my home models, the Durabrands just won't read them.

Another and more serious flaw with the PVS-1966... the bag that hold the player has a fishnet strap that hold it in the bag. How do you change DVD's without taking the player completly out of the bag? Cord to the second screen is shorter than those that come with the PVS-1960.

The unit never made the trip.

I have the Venturer PVS-1960 also, and having one issure. When I play coppied dvd using dvdshrink the movie studders. I dont know if its the media or the burning process. When the movies studder I can rewind it and play that spot again and it plays fine. So I cant figure out if its the media or the software. I am using Maxell-R(8X) and Memorex-R(8X) CMC. All recordings play fine on other DvD players. I was wondering if anyone can tell me what brand media they are using on this Venturer system with good results?

    Thanks
