  1. Hi,

Just recently, my WMP 9 had stopped playing back anything at all. No WMV, MP3, MPG. Nothing. It crashes with a pop up that then points to the Event View text file that tells me nothing.

What I remember doing: is installing FFDSHOW codecs. When it stopped playing, I had un installed FFDSHOW. Still no candy. Does not play a darn thing.

Downloaded and re installed WMP 9. No joy. I don't want to go to thew horrors of version 10.

I use VLC now, and I love it. But I'd like to know what has broken.

Any information will be greatly appreciated.

Oh yea. I did full virus scan, Spybot, Adaware, A2, etc. All clean.

Thanks ahead for solutions to try.

I've taken the plunge and updated to WMP 10. No workie.

Then I did the ultimate, as a Google result suggested. I had Restored and repaired XP. (Hours of microhell.)
Had to slipstream SP2 to the XP pro and burn it and so on and so on....

And nothing. The player will not play anything. It crashes on any file and gives an mmc.exe Application Error. It also crashes FireFox when I am on a website and try to play a streaming WMV video.

This is weird. Something got corrupted. But...

Reparing XP Pro, should have replaced just about anything that got corrupted. Except for the codecs.

I just wonder. Right now I'm at a loss.

Reloading the os from a clean install is the correct way to do things .

www.free-codecs.com is a place for codecs that might help as well .

As for that FFDSHOW , it makes a complete mess in xp , and its advised not to install it ever unless you know exactly what you are doing , there is no need for it .

I also had success using and installing media player clasic , the one that plays rm files , seemed to fix mediaplayer 10's problems .

    Located over at www.free-codecs.com

seem's like something is a miss in the registry there ...
