    Hi all,

I was just wondering if I can use higher bitrate with VCD than the standard 1150kbps? Will it still play on my Pioneer DV-444? I've read that the maximum bitrate is 2600kbps with SVCD but can I use for example 2000kbps VCD stream? (otherwise standard VCD)

Btw, can I use Universal's 4-in-1 remote control with my Pioneer DV-444? (Packet doesn't say if it can be used with DVD-players only with VCR-players)

Yes you could do that and it should work good with your pioneer but it won't be a VCD it will be a "XVCD".

Thanks for your quick response. I'll give it a try. I suppose that the right bitrate can be calculated with this formula (if I want to use only 2 CDs):

x=(160*1150)/y, where y is the length of the movie
(160 because you can put 80 minutes of standard VCD (1150kbps) on one CD)

I would appreciate if anybody knows answer to the question concerning remote control.

Just to inform you all that now I have tested following XVCDs:
    - 1800kbps NTSCFilm (352x240x23.976fps)
    - 2000kbps NTSCFilm (352x240x23.976fps)
    - 1700kbps PAL (352x288x25fps)

And everything plays just ok with my Pioneer DV-444. But it did miscalculated the playing time. This is not a fatal bug and doesn't even bother at all.

But Pioneer DV-444 is not able to play 352x272 video at all as my friend's DVD-player is (I don't remember the model).

What a strange resolution 352x272 is! No wonder DV-444 did not like it.
