  1. i've only posted one question on this site but i've recieved plenty of help by using this forum(thanks). i'm trying to get set up to put college football games that i've captured w/ my tv tuner on dual layer discs. last yr. i put a few on dvd5's but had to split them to maintain quality. i've reviewed alot of the posts about dual layer, purchased a dual layer burner and the latest nero editition i have allegedly supports dl burning. almost all the dl posts i could find focus on backing up dvd9's(movies). since its alot more expensive to experiment with dl discs, i just wanted to make sure i was headed in the right direction. if i'm going to have the same issues as movie back ups then i'll refer to those posts for info.however, i thought that since i can set my chapters when authoring likely 1st,2nd,3rd and 4th quarter that i won't have an issue with layer break because i could manually set it between the 2nd and 3rd quarter.(i've seen the posts on using dvd decrypter and dvd rom book typesetting but didn't think that would apply in this case).

i did this with a few games this season.

i recorded in 1.5 hour mode on my dvd recorder (pioneer dvr-220s) to 3 dvd-rw's (on average), i exchanged discs once i reached an hour per disc during the commercials.

i then took the discs to my PC, extracted all the video to mpeg with tmpgenc dvd editor.

i then cut out all the commercials, took the mpegs to tmpegnc dvd author, made some simple menu's, set the chapters by each teams possesions, and ouputted to files.

i burned the files with recordnow max 7.3, it sets the layer break automatically.. i'm not really too concerned with it, because my dvd player (pioneer dv-270) goes right through the layer break without me even noticing.

1.5 hour mode has always worked well for me since 1.5 hours = 4.3gb.. actual air time is a little more than 2 hours from what i have experienced.. so i'm usually left with some extra space on the disc.. i kind of wish i had dvd recorder with a harddrive that would record at 15mbps so i could record at high quality and then determine what time setting would be the best to maximize quality, and then transfer to dvd-rw (which i would take the PC and edit).. but guesstimating is the best i can do for now.
