I heared folks are complaining that the Media Player on XP64 doesn't release resources, so the system crawls after they play a video file and close the player.
-
lots of other better media players anyway ...

Great. Maybe now we'll finally see the performance increases that were promised with the original Pentium lines. :P

Is it really that much diffferent that XP Pro? I dont think too many people are going to pay $XX more for something that is not that much different.
I just ordered my first Pentium 4 today, guess I have no use for this XP64. -
If your P4 is a 6XX model chip, it MAY work with XP64.

I know sarcasm is hard to convey over the 'net, but come on.
On another note, has anyone actually played with a 64-bit processor on a 64-bit OS? What is the performance like?"It's getting to the point now when I'm with you, I no longer want to have something stuck in my eye..." -
Have to wait for a new chip and a PCI express slot here: as
the 64 bit version of WINDERS released today doesn't load when sensing a 32 bit processor -

btw ... dvdfab installs 64 bit drivers / support now, backup and burning .. first back up dvd app that truly works in 64bit mode using XP64 (many other backup and buring apps dont work)"Each problem that I solved became a rule which served afterwards to solve other problems." - Rene Descartes (1596-1650) -
on the other hand - several encoding apps seem slower on XP64 (as they are operating in 32bit mode) than on the same machine running XP32
i'm waiting for more 64bit apps .."Each problem that I solved became a rule which served afterwards to solve other problems." - Rene Descartes (1596-1650) -
Microsoft has Window$ XP Pro x64 edition for only $12 to owners of 64-bit capable PCs with XP Pro. I think it's actually free and the cost covers shipping. $22 USD for International shipments.

NOTE: this seems to be for systems 64-bit systems with XP Pro preinstalled, but you'll qualify as long as you've purchased or ordered your PC before July, 31 2005.Nothing can stop me now, 'cause I don't care anymore. -
virtualdub and several other apps and firefox all now have 64bit versions

I know this might sound stupid but wouldn't a XP 256bit version been better?
