    Hi all,

When editing my TV captures in VirtualDub, I use Inverse Telecine to deinterlace. However, this doesn't get rid of all of the interlace lines. I've tried using filters to deinterlace, but they cripple motion. Here is what i'm doing to perform Inverse Telecine:

    Click on Video
    Click on Framerate
Click on Reconstruct from fields - Adaptive

Am I doing it wrong? Is there another effective way of deinterlacing without crippling motion?

    I've tried the following filters:
    -VirtualDub Internal Deinterlace
    -Donald Graft's Smart Deinterlace
    -Deinterlace - Area Based

These are cartoon, by the way.

  2. VirtualDub's Adaptive IVTC doesn't work very well. In fact, I don't know of any automatic IVTC that works well.

Assuming your source is telecined, try using VirtualDub's manual IVTC "Reconstruct from fields, manual". There are five possible values for the offset -- 0 to 4. (I've never had to use the "invert polarity" option.) It's a bit difficult to explain what value to pick, but since there's only five you can try each one until you find the right one.

The problem with the manual method is that your source must be perfectly telecined, with no breaks in the pattern, and perfectly captured (no dropped frames). If there are breaks in the pattern you have to break the video up into segments. Each pattern break becomes the boundary between segments.
