Hi, I have a PIII 866, 128 MB RAM, original Intel 815 Motherboard. I have a PC-DVD drive with DXR3 card and I run Windows Me. I have installed the drivers for the DXR3 card. I have connected my monitor thru the Card. But I dont know, what it is doing inside my computer ? Is it a show piece or is it doing a lot of work transparently, because I never use it in any manner directly. Can anyone please tell me what will be the difference if I do not install it in my computer ? While buying, I was told that it enhanced the picture quality specially when playing full screen or on large monitors. But when I play VCDs fullscreen, the result is even worse than a common TV. I think , I have been fooled. Please reply.
Thanx,
Anil

DXR3 (REALmagic Hollywood Plus) is a Realtime MPEG2/DVD Decoder card, basicly if you use the program that is specificly for it, you can play MPEG1/MPEG2/DVD without CPU usage, so it's great for old PC's which don't have a fast enough processor.
Also, you can use it to output to a TV and a Dolby/DTS surround system at extremly high quality.

HI Sefy,
Can you please tell me which softwares are available for DXR3? The software that came with it is worthless. Does PowerDVD or WinDVD use Dxr3 ?
Thanx,
Anil

Unfortunatly there is 3 options that I know off, either the Creative Software you have (which is crap) or change the driver to the Hollywood Plus (since it's the same card) and then you'l be able to use the DVDstation which is better, or you can use the Eugene DVD Player.
You cannot take advantage of the card unless you are using a Hardware DVD Player, no Software DVD Player will use it.

In other words if you can sell it to someone who can have better use of it ie..slow PC Do It!
and then get a better DVD drive or DVD-R
Speed Costs Money , How Fast Do U Want To Go? -
hehe, well, you could do that, unless you want to output the DVD to a TV at the best quality
The card costs now days around 45$, is it really worth for you to sell it as second hand ?
