    Hi,

I have a problem: My vcd image is widescreen but got encoded 4:3 which lead to loooong heads and uneven tires ^^

How do I change to widescreen (I have TMPGenc etc.)?

    Thanks for the help°!!!!

    VCD is 4:3.
If you have a 16:9 TV, set it to wide/full. If not, resize, letterbox and reencode.

No, I didn't get you wrong. Like I said, if you have a 16:9 TV, switch to 16:9 mode. Or try a PC VCD player that can be resized independently horisontally/vertically. Else, you have to extract the mpg, resize, letterbox and reencode. Losing quality.

    Widescreen support of MPEG1 is VERY player-dependent. Most DON'T support it. I just tried WMP6.4 (no), MPClassic(yes), WMP9/10(yes), RoxioVCDPlayer(no).

    Here's what you do...

    1. Mount your CUE/BIN. You can use DaemonTools.
    2. Use VCDEasy's Rip tool. You'll get the plain Mpeg1 in a folder on your HD.
    3. Demux a copy of the mpg stream to video(mpv/m1v) and audio(mpa/m2a/mp2) streams. You can use TMPEGEnc.
    4. Open the video stream in MPEGSequenceMaker (see Tools). Use "all files" filetype filter to see an m1v.
    5. Click-[Options]. The only user-adjustable dropdown will be aspect ratio. It should be at standard NTSC. Change it to Widescreen NTSC.
    6. Name an output file as in "myfile_16x9.m1v" and click [Save]. It will re-write the headers without recompressing--usually quite fast.
    7. Remux the new video stream with the old audio stream. TMPEGEnc again. You'll end up with "myfile_16x9.mpg".
    8. Copy that file to where the original file resided and rename it to be EXACTLY like the original.
    9. Use VCDEasy/VCDImager to create a new CUE/BIN from the original XML, and burn.
    10. Enjoy!

    HTH,
    Scott

If that doesn't do what you want, you'll have to follow mats.hogberg's fine advice.

No. Happily, it won't affect the quality at all (barring resizing problems in your player).

re: #3...Any and Every version of TMPGEnc can freely mux and demux MPEG1 and MPEG2, incl. old and/or free versions.

re: #5...coming from US, I'm assuming NTSC. If your in PAL land, replace everything I just said with PAL-appropriate settings (including the Widescreen dropdown choice).
Obviously, to make sure, look at the video 1st in a player and check properties of it. If it's 352x240(sometimes mislabeled 320x240) at 29.97fps, it's NTSC. If it's 352x288 (or "320x288) at 25fps, it's PAL.

Have fun and let us know how it went. You can always use a CD-RW for testing purposes...
