  1. Looking to do a little DVD backup. Which of the pieces of software mentioned at the bottom of this writeup can bypass CSS-Encryption? I see the best one (InterVideo DVD Copy) does NOT do this. I'm currently using DVD-Shrink with does bypass just about everything, but finished in last for this comparison. Looking for better quality. Thanks!

  2. Better quality will require an encoder rather than a transcoder. DVDRB or DVDREasy.

DVD Decrypter bypasses CSS and the newer Sony Arcoss protection scheme. DVD Shrink doesn't get around the newer encryption.

If you search these forums you will find a couple of discussions that pretty much discredit that article. The stills used are not correct, and in a number of places still from the original are used as reencoded stills to make certain products look better. It also references an older version of DVD Shrink, which didn't have the AEC modes that substantially improve picture quality. Basically, that article holds no relevence now whatsoever.

    So, for my money

DVD Decrypter - the best ripper. Closely followed by VobBlanker.
DVD Shrink - best transcoder. Good quality in most situations. Not perfect in all cases.
DVD Rebuilder with CCE (or maybe HCenc) for longer movies or hard encodes. High quality than Shrink, but at a time cost.
