Hi,
I have some cricket videos that I want to edit, I used Video Edit Magic to basically put in a JPEG as the scorecard after every over, but now I would like to know how to do LBW replays, Third umpire Light, Slow Motion, zoom and a running scorecardat the top e.g. 2/45 etc.. If anyone could help.. would be much appreciated
Thanks

Start by doing some reading. The manuals and/or help files will tell you if your editor can do these things. Start by looking for slow motion effects or velocity effects, overlays and compositing, zoom or resize. You may find that it can't do some or all of these, in which case you need to start looking for something that can. In the meantime, I getting the feeling you want us to do your homework for you.

I don't mind finding out myself, I just wanted any more EXPERIENCED users to help if they wanted toand to tell basic solutions such as how to do it, any good software, any good tutorials. I'm not forcing you to help, if you don't want to, you don't need to reply and I will try finding out other ways of getting this information!!

I would do slow motion effects with Vegas, as it's velocity envelopes produce great results. I would do compositing and graphics with 3dsmax 6 and after effects 6.5 Pro. Probably do some finetuning in photoshop. So far you're up for about $6-7000.
I wasn't trying to a dick, just trying to get you to look at what you have first and experiment. It is by far the best way to learn. I do some of this stuff as part of my business, so I have kit that you probably don't. My solutions, and many of those that will be posted here, won't necessarily be appropriate to you as you won't have the software. But if you understand how what you do have works, you may be able to adapt these suggestions to work for you.Read my blog here.

First thing to say is that there is no software I'm aware of that is purposely written for producing proffesional quality cricket videos.
So the next thing is to look at the video editors that are available and establish if they have the features that can be used or adopted to produce the effects you are are looking for.
I use Pinnacle Studio 9 plus for editing so I can only comment for this software and the answer is yes!
1. LBW Replays - Simply copy the relevant section of video and paste it again to show the replay preceeded by a blank title set that says erm.."Replay" or "Instant Replay" ????
2. Third Umpire - Use an art package such as photoshop to create some relevant graphics ie red/green lights and use the picture in picture effect to display them at the relevant point.
3. Slow Mo - simply highlight the relevant section of video and apply the std speed plug-in
4. Zoom - simply highlight the relevant section of video and apply the std zoom plug-in
5. Running Scorecard - Just use a series of seperate titles to indicate the score as it changes
Studio does not like mpeg for editing so I use AVI then export to mpeg and use DVDlab to author.
I'm sure others will describe the same editing features in Vegas etc so try everything and use what works best for you.
Off Topic - BTW you aussies are going to get thumped in the Ashes this year !!!! -

Premiere can do this just fine.
Seems your biggest problem could be cameras.. how many do you have filming this game? All you do is gather the video from these cameras and fire up premiere. I can walk you through it if you let me know what you are working with. -
after looking over your specs you seem to have the right stuff, I would suggest upping the ram to 512 or 768, however, you have the capture device, all we need to know now is how many camers, what editing software you are going to choose?

Tell you what, I am making a video tutorial on how to do it in Premiere Pro, it will be on my site in a few minutes. Actually a very simple effect to create. I just dropped two videos on one and made two of them smaller and positioned them where I wanted.
Hope this helps you.
Let me know. -
Actually the only software I have at the moment is Video Edit Magic, so I'll have to decide and get the software you guys think are good. I'll check out some of the tutorials and get back to you.

Hi,
I actually got Ulead Video studio to see how that would work. and now I am able to add Overlays(only 1) and sound and the other stuff. But I need asoftware that will allow multiple overlays..how complicated is Adobe Premiere and After effects? How much will they cost? I have Jasc Paintshop Pro, is that good enough? or is Photoshop better?Lucky -
PSP is fine. Anything that can produce good quality tiff or tgs images with alpha channels is good. After Effects comes in two sizes. The standard bundle, which has less plugins and no keylight is around AU$1500. The production bundle, which has the extra plugins, keylight and better tracking is around AU$6000. You would have to check out your adobe reseller for pricing in other currencies.
You may find that if you are careful you can get away with a single overlay track. Just break you overlay down into small segments so you can change just small parts of it. Certain parts will be static and constant across most of the clips - borders, backgrounds to names etc. Create those first and have a library of reusable parts. You can then use layers to add specific bits, like the names of players, as required. Apply these to the overlay track as required.Read my blog here.

I have actually got to put one overlay for the LBW line and one for Replay sogn at the top of the screen and I can't put them on the one Overlay track simultaneously, can I?

Use tif or tga with alpha channels (both format support them). The alpha channels allow you to have transparent ares for the video to show through (assuming your editor supports them). jpgs don't support alpha channels, and don't compress text very well (artifacts around the edges). My personal preference is the 32 bit tga format.
