  1. I dont like them a bit, the prodisc silver inkjet printables are MUCH better in output quality of the label. the TY's are quality, but the prodiscs work the same in real world use, if kept clean. Im very dissapointed in my 100pk of white ty's. the picture turns out way too dull, you can tell the ink just soaks into the label, the colors blend way too awkwardly.

Are the TY silver printables as good as the Prodisc silvers? also, i keep wondering why people bash the silvers for a holographic or bland look. The trick is to set the contrast way up in the printcd software, i can get mine to look like the pictures are popping of the disc. Also, when using silver, in the print menu move the color selector to the darkest level, 3 it helps a lot on the silver labels.

  2. Strange! I use the TY inkjet hub printable +r's and they turn out great. I use an R200 with the settings on supermicroweave and glossy photo paper. Haven't tried the silver labels yet. Would like to but I don't want to waste the money on something that might not look as good as what I have.

I've never used Prodisc so I can't answer your question, but the inkjet TY's work great for me too. I can't tell any difference from the original.

As for silvers, thank you very much for suggesting to increase contrast and darkness. I will definitely try that to see how it looks. At default settings it does look very holographic with most everything but black, but that's why I like it. Its a convincing effect that I've never even seen on a retail DVD. If the artwork lends itself, its much more interesting and professional looking then a plain label, IMO. I interchange between white and silver depending on the design of the label.

  4. I agree with krupted. The print quality of the TY white printables is terrible. The printed labels look dull and flat ... no brightness at all. The ink just soaks and doesn't set very well. I'm gonna go back to the Prodiscs ...

  5. well thats good at least, meaning im not the only one. When i bought my printer, it came with a memorex white cd-r and i thought the output of that image was great. But the ty's arent.

Ever think one would choose Prodisc over TY for quality?

edit- my only problem now is what im going to do with 96 cd-r's i really dont want to use

Are you talking about TY CD's or DVD's?

I'm personally not a fan of TY DVD-R media because of burning issues in the past, but it's generally considered some of the best media.

The DVD+R is great, I'm fine with it.

    The CD-R is awesome too.

None. All inkjet media in past months, including TY, TDK, MCC, PRODISC, .. the list goes on ... has been bad. It's just terrible out there.

Never liked inkjet discs, just another solid reason.

Maybe I can help. I pretty much burn mostly printables, and agree TY is not the best for print quality. I burn -R media with my NEC's (2500 & 3500). Love them for burning - not so much for reading & ripping.

    Anyhoo,

MCC (Verbatim DataLifePlus) printables are very good. QC is excellent. All my disks have burned consistently well. Print quality is very good. Can get it in hub printable or hub branded. I'm into my second 50 spindle of 8x hub printables with no issues.

Maxell, 4x, is what I used exclusively for a long time. The print & burn quality was unmatched. Some people are having issues with the 8x lately. I haven't seen it, but the error counts aren't what they used to be - still 'A' media in my book. Burning at 4x helps quite a bit. You can only get them non-hub printable. They aren't easy to find.

I suggest you don't go with any cheap media....printables require better quality control than branded media. I'm insistent on using all 4.4gb+ of my disk, because that's what I'm paying for.

wow, that seems a little harsh. I have used Prodisc F01 silver inkjet printables exclusively and over 100 discs without a coaster. With updated firmware my NEC 3500a burns them at 12x too. Only thing i can notice with cheap discs like these are when they get scratches on them, they can get really picky in certain players. I have found keeping them clean and scratch free allows very good playback results.

Also, these are TY cd-r's i was talking about. I still prefer silver printables, but i got my printer to work better with the ty whites by changing the media type in printer preferences to premium cd/dvd

  12. Every one I've used has been pretty much flawless EXCEPT Prodisc S04's and they are crap on both my Pioneer 106 and my BTC 16im

    TDK PrintOn (TTG02) = flawless (40 out of 40)
Prodisc S03 (white) = flawless (300+ maybe a few bad)
    Prodisc S03 (silver) = flawless (97 out of 100)
    Ritek G05 = flawless (10 out of 10)
Fry's GQ (+Rs book type to ROM) (Optodisc0R8) = almost flawless (4 bad out of 50)
Prodis S04 = crap (will never buy again)

Best print surface out of them, hands down it's Prodisc (white hub printable)
