I'm fairly new to this conversion stuff and i wanted to see if I could do it by myself before i start yelling for help, but here I am.
I have 2 avi movies that i wanted to convert to vcd(they are of my grandkids)(since i don't have my dvd burner on this machine)..anyways..with the help of GSpot, i found out that both of the movies have corrupt AVI headers and are unplayable. Is this something that can be fixed or are these precious memories gone forever?
Thanks in advance for any and all help.

Hi bangorgal,
Welcome to the forums.
Post a screenshot of the info from GSpot - it might be that someone spots something that can be fixed, or has had a similar problems and knows one way or the other.
At present, "corrupt AVI headers" isn't much to go on... (Not a criticism).
Download the free tool VirtualDub and see if that'll open it. You may be able to re-save to a different AVI and so correct the headers that way - only a guess...
BEWARE - VirtualDub defaults to no compression codec, i.e. you'll get an uncompressed AVI file that'll be huge. Use the same codec as detailed in GSpot.
Good luck...There is some corner of a foreign field that is forever England: Telstra Stadium, Sydney, 22/11/2003.

Create or get a known good avi file of the type you have that is corrupt. Start virtualdub. Do "Tools-Hex Editor-File open". Get all the information of this file. Then do the same with your bad avi file. Make sure you uncheck the read only when you open up your bad avi file. Change the appropriate hex data of your bad avi file. I had a similar problem with a corrupt avi file and this worked for me.

Thank you both for the tips and hintss. I downloaded virtualdub and that won't play my avi. I'll try to get a screenshot up when time allows. I appreciate your help.
