  1. I have been creating DVDs from captured video for quite some time. A lot of the video that I have contains the closed-captions. After editing the video I will create DVDs using either TMPGenc DVD author, IFO Edit or ReJig.

Unfortunately the DVDs that I create do not show as being closed-captioned. If I demux the new .vobs, I find that the video still contains the closed-captioning so I am starting to believe that there is a setting in the .ifo possibly indicating that closed captioning is included.

Does anyone know if there is either a setting in the authoring programs or possibly a utility to modify the ifo later that will allow me to turn on this setting? (if it even exists).

I have been able to sucessfully convert the closed captioning to subtitles but the captioning is important because my father is nearly deaf and displays the captioning nearly exclusively.

Thanks in advance to anyone w/ any suggestions.

    How did you do that?

Yes, certain programs take the CC's off & you can't do much about it. It's best to find a program that keeps them.

  5. If the closed caption data is in the video, you can use IFOEdit and enable them. You open your ifo file and double click on the video title in VTS overview, then check off "CC for line 21 Field 1 in GOP", and that should enable them to work.

I found this link: https://www.videohelp.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=220458 but it describes recording closed caption during analog capture.

I was wondering if anyone knows how to extract closed captions from an MPEG2 file (recorded in a Panasonic DMR-E-55) or from a DV file (captured with a Sony D8 camera).

I’m in the process of converting my laserdisc collection to DVD and I would like to keep the closed caption and covert them to subtitles.

    Thanks.
