  1. Hi all,
I've been converting my video's to dvd by recording onto a few +RW discs and then transferring them to -R's.
I have struck one that will not work though.
Nero created the image ok from the +RW but says it can only be burnt back to a +R disc......
All the others burnt back to -R discs.....

Anyone know how I may be able to get this particular one to burn to -R ?????

Thanks in advance for any assistance...

  2. It would help to provide a little more info, starting with your burner & media.

Could you post a screen shot of that error?

  3. Try ripping the DVD with dvdshrink and if that does not work try DVD Decrypter. May want to try clonedvd if the other two do not work but try one program at a time.

  4. The DVD Recorder (stand alone) is a Lite-On LVW5005
    The RW disc is a Lite-On +RW
My DVD burner (pc) is an LG 16x dual Layer

    Hope this helps....

  5. Thanks spiderman2k1, but I have tried bothe dvdchrink and decryptor (latest versions) and neither even recognise the +RW disk is being in the drive.......

Nero is the ONLY app that sees the +RW disc in the drive......

  6. Can you see the disc in windows explorer? If you can see the files, they shouldn't be encrypted so a straight copy from DVD to your hard drive will work.

  7. Tried that RMaddog, but as I previously stated,
    for some reason
Nero is the ONLY app that sees the +RW disc in the drive

as fas as ANY other program is concerned (DVD Shrink, DVD Decryptor, windows explorer, total commander, smartripper etc) there is no disc in the drive.

You might have more luck with Blindwrite. http://www.vso-software.fr/blindwrite5_english.htm You can download a 30 day trial from the site.

Or, I don't know if this will work, but you could open the Nero tool Nero CD-DVD Speed, click on the "Extra" file menu and select bitsetting and change the book type of your drive to DVD_ROM.

  9. Erase the RW and re-record it from your video.

  10. Can you use DVD Decrypter to burn the image (assuming it's an ISO)?

  12. WOW I've never seen this, and I did a lot of + to - burning.

use Alcohol 120 and read the disc as iso, the burn it

  13. thanks for all the responses people.
    I tried your suggestions.
    tried blind read/write - wouldn't recognise the +RW disc
tried DVD Decryptor - wouldn't see the +RW disc.

I've copied about 2 dozen videos to dvd using the same method each time.
This is the 1st time I've used the Lite-On +RW and (coincidentally(?)) this is the 1st time I've had this problem.

Probably best to follow RMaddog's suggestion and erase the RW and re-record it from the video again.
see if I get the same problem. If I do, I'd say it's something to do with the Lite-on RW disc

Once again, thanks everyone for your advice. Very much appreciated.

  14. 1
id try it in a different dvd burner on a different pc

    2
    if no luck
id be tempted to copy onto a -RW
and then try -RW to -r

    3
    if that didnt work
    id copy onto a +R
and then try +R to -R

i know its a wasted disk but the question would play on my mind if i didnt

  15. Is the +RW finalised? If not it can explain the fault to recognition.

Can DVD Decrypter write the image file created by Nero?

  17. Thanks for all the responses, I appreciate the help.
Unfortunatly I haven't been able to get anything to work, so I will simply re-record the video onto another rw disc. One that I know will allow me to copy it off onto a -r.

Once again, thankyou all for your responses.

  18. If you check the circled box below, I think Decrypter will work for you.

  19. If nothing else works, you can always brute-force it. [1] Use SmartRipper o DVD Decrypter to rip the VOBS; [2] use Womble or TMPGenc to demux; [3] feed the demuxed elementary video and audio streams into the DVD authoring program of your choice; [4] author the DVD anew and burn to a -R DVD.

Once you've ripped the DVD onto your hard disc as MPEG-2 and ac3 files there is absolutely positively nothing preventing you from creating a DVD-R as long as your burner can burn to -R media.

i'd give alcohol 120% a shot, you know

"create image" then try to burn the image to -r should then work.

May i ask why your going from +r to -r beside the possibility your standalone cannot read it, which most new ones can.
