  1. I just bought a 50 pack of Sony DVD-R (DMR47L3), AccuCore, 1x-8x discs and when I insert them, my various burning softwares tell me that the media is incorrect or that it is not empty.

This is the first time I have tried these particular discs and I never had any problems before with Sony+, Samsung + and -, and Memorex + and -. I even also tried 8x (Samsung) with no problem so I know that my LG burner is compatible with this speed.

Could this have anything to do with Firmware? Do I need to download and install something? Is this a media or a hardware issue? Could the discs be defective?

Any information to guide me will be greatly appreciated.
    Thanks.

I'd start with new firmware. I have an LG burner (4163B) but I haven't tried SONY08D1 discs with it yet. If they go on sale this Sunday I might grab a spindle.

  3. Thanks for your reply Gen-An.
Please forgive my ignorance but, where can I get this new firmware? Is this at the LG site or at the Sony site? Or, somewhere else?
    Thanks.

    Should be at LG's site.

  5. Ok, so I upgraded to the latest firmware available at the LG site and I'm still having the same problem with these Sony discs. When I load the disc, DVD Decrypter shows the following:

    HL-DT-ST DVDRAM GSA-4120B A115 (ATA)
    Current Profile: DVD-R

    Disc Information:
    Status: Complete
    Erasable: No
    Sessions: 1
    Supported Write Speeds: 1x, 2x

    Physical Format Information (Last Recorded):
    Book Type: DVD-R
    Part Version: 5
    Disc Size: 120mm
    Maximum Read Rate: Not Specified
    Number of Layers: 1
Track Path: Parallel Track Path (PTP)
    Linear Density: 0.267 um/bit
    Track Density: 0.74 um/track
First Physical Sector of Data Area: 196,608
Last Physical Sector of Data Area: 2,495,103
Last Physical Sector in Layer 0: 0

at the bottom, there is a Status message saying: "Disc Not Empty".

I would assume that the drive unit should be able to handle all discs given that the box says: "World's first all DVD formats compatible", that its 12x compatible and even writes double layer discs (8.5 GB).

Is there any other test that I can try?

I'm hoping that I can get these discs to work because where I am located (Mexico), it is not easy to claim refunds at the stores so it is pretty much the customer's loss when the item does not work.

Again, any help will be greatly apreciated. Thanks.
