Hey everyone, I'm trying to figure out if and how i can hook up my home stereo to my DVD. Usually it would be simple, but there's one complication: Since my TV is too old to have any of the modern connections e.g. composite, s-video, etc - I have to run my DVD player through an RF Modulator for it to show DVD on my TV.

On the back of my receiver I have rca's for Video, VCR out, VCR in, and then all the other stuff you'd normally see on the back of a receiver.

Is there some way I can trick the RF modulator into thinking it's hooked up to the DVD player?

Any input would be great, Randy

  2. If you receiver has a video pass-through, you could go RCA-->receiver-->RF modulator-->TV

  3. ...or buy two RCA splitter's(Y),one for left and one for right channel. Then you hook up one output to RF modulator and one to receiver.
They sell them at Radio Shack,BestBuy,etc.

Well, I don't know exactly what a Video pass through is, but my receiver has only Video - Yellow, White, Red rca's and then VCR rec in, and VCR play out - Yellow, White, Red rca's.

I originally put the RF in to the VCR out and the DVD out to the VCR in. I thought this might work, but it seemed like no matter what way I hooked it up the RF power light didn't come back on until I just went DVD to RF and coax to TV....then the RF power light comes back on all of a sudden.

Do you think that the "Video" on the back of my receiver is a pass through?

Thanks folks for your help, Randy

Maybe. It's worth a shot. If it doesn't work, try MOVIEGEEK's suggestion.
