I have some movies that are 30 fps was wondering if i need to convert them to 29.976 for Ntsc compatibility or leave as is?

Well, let's see... at 0.024fps skew, it takes 41.6 seconds to generate a frame of skew.
So... 1249 seconds, or 20.8 minutes, into the film, your movie will be off by 1 second. That's kind of a lot. By the end of a 2 hour movie, you'd be off by nearly 12 seconds.
So yeah, you have to convert. -
You dont have to convert to 29.97 if the resolution is dvd or svcd compliant and the files are mpg,just demux and run the video thru dgpulldown to 29.97fps and remux,easy as that.

And what, praytell, does dgpulldown do? It makes the video (one way or another) 29.97fps instead of 30fps.
But if the AUDIO isn't 48khz, you will need to resample that as well.
