Which of these would you get. Is one better than the other? Is the XP version just made to run in Windows XP?
Does one have more options than the other?
    My OS is XP Pro.

Trying to figure out which one of these to get.
I did a quick search and did'nt find much. Just one page saying 2003 had better XML support.

Thanks for any advice or info.

Looks like Office XP is your best bet. I don't think Office XP requires Windows XP to run - check www.microsoft.com for more details.

Horribly expensive, aren't they? I'm OK - student discount!

Thanks, but I know what they cost

I was asking if one was actually better than the other?
    More options, features, etc.?

My wife is in college so I can get the discount as well !!

  5. Office 2003 has some new features, but I havent really noticed any. I too am a student and have used both. i suggest just buying office 2003 since you get a student discount, other than that you wont find many changes, especially if its going to be used for school work.

Is the academic version different (or cheaper) than the Student and Teacher Edition?
Nothing can stop me now, 'cause I don't care anymore.

  7. the academic version is cheaper than the Student and Teacher edition. I had gotten the Office XP version of Student and Teacher, which came with word, excel, powerpt, and outlook. later I got the Office 2003 for only $55 with the student discount and that came with everthing the Office XP Student and Teacher Edition had plus access and publisher.

i have office xp pro on my computer, and i just took a computer course last semester with office 2003. 2003 is the newer version, but there really isnt that much difference. the only really noticable thing is that 2003 incorporates an online dictionary/encyclopedia/thesuraus into it. basically all you do is highlight a word or phrase then click on the online research button. then a side pane comes up with some research. nothing that you cant look up with google.

so i would say go with xp, same features, and it also takes up less space on your hard drive..

Outlook in 2003 is an improvment over earlier versions. Most of the other stuff is incremental improvements that won't make much difference to most users.
