  1. question: how comes when i create a PAL DVD using TMPGEnc to convert my movie to m2v+wav then convert the wav in to ac3 and author and burn with TMPGEnc DVD author it works on my friends DVD player, but when i use TMPGEnc Xpress to convert the movie file to an MPEG-2 and then author and burn with TMPGEnc DVD author it doesn't work on their DVD player.

Things that that i can't get my head around is.

    1. I used the same movie for both
    2. Used the same media for both
    3. Used the PAL template in both bits of software
    4. They both seem to work on my home DVD player (although i know that it can depend on which player you have.)

Has anyone found a certain process for putting movies on DVD that play on most players??? Again i know that it can depends on which player you have but surely there's a more consistant way of getting them playing on DVD players

What audio format do you use in the second (non working) example? Some players don't do MP2 audio.

mp2 audio is not part of the standard DVD spec for NTSC players, and is for PAL only in Europe, although to simplify the manutacturing process, most PAL players will support it. Your friend has a player that does not support it, you have a player than does. For universal playback, stick with AC3.

  5. Excellent thank you for clearing that up. I didn't know that if a player didnt support a certain audio type that it wouldn't play at all, just thought it would not play any sound.

One my question - can you use AC3 with mpeg-2 files????

    Thanks again Peep's

I'd say that's up to the individual make/model.

DVD Video is always m2v (mpeg2 video). This can be multiplexed with AC3, LPCM or MP2 audio.

One other thing to look at. Is this player connected to an amp ? If so, check the audio output settings in the player's menu. Many amps wont recognise mp2 audio (mine wont), so the player needs to be set to output PCM for mp2 streams.
