  1. Nero CD-DVD speed tells me that my NEC 3520a writer, using TYG03 16x DVD-R media, only writes at 6x speed.

I'm connected using a firewire enclosure; I've heard that using such enclosures can slow down write speed -- is this true? Why so? And is there any way I can get the speed up to 16x?

Do a burst rate test in CD-DVD Speed.

    Post the results.

  3. Funny... it only seems to want to be able to do the Transfer Rate test. It won't do any other test.

I'm using the most popular modified firmware, but others have posted results using it. Perhaps, going via an enclosure, "CD-DVD Speed" doesn't know the drive's capabilities?

My computer is an IBM Thinkpad A31, 1.25GB, 7200rpm disks, 2.3Ghz Pentium 4-M. The enclosure is an Oxford-911-based Firewire 400/USB-2 box, and I'm using the Firewire port for communication with a TI TSB81BA3 (PHY) and TSB82AA2 (LYNX) based Cardbus Firewire 400/800 card.

  4. Oops -- I didn't realize I had to use a burned disc to run the burst test. D'oh!

Okay, enclosed are the results of a transfer rate test, data disc burn, and burst rate test. Does this tell you anything?
