You will not pay $15 a month to play a game that you will end up playing for hours and hours....

Yet you'll pay $8 to go see a movie for 2 hours (IF YOUR LUCKY)

You should examine how you entertianment dollars get spent, then you'll realize an MMO is really cheap in comparison.

I guess that would be down to personal preference. I would spend £5 (im in UK) to see a movie on the BIG SCREEN and would rather not pay to play online games.

For gaming, i prefer buying the game so i pay a one off fee, play anytime I want.

Well after 3 days Let me give my impression.

It has alot of bad things like BIG bugs, crashes, server stability issues. All the things people know and love about MMO games. Especially new ones. Its biggest hardware draw back is you MUST have a DirectX9 compatible video card. If its DX8 compatible (like the Geforce4 series) you COULD play but all the shaders will not work so you have no skin tones, no lighting beyond pitch black and bright as heck and I just dont' suggest that.

This game is NOT easy. At least not to me. EQ was easier to get into then this game has been.

There are 3 different type of basic attacks you can use that have different advantages and disadvantages. Combat is very turned based and you do NOT control your characters movement once "interlock" (basicly melee or no-ranged combat) has begun. Matter of fact to escape combat often you have to do a move to try and leave interlock. It sounds horrible and it feels that way at first but then you realize the aspect it adds to the game, specificly player vs. player combat.

Its very story driven. Here is an except from the webpage about whats happening right now.

Peace is never certain, though death is.

    Or is it?

Missing and presumed dead, the One nevertheless remains a symbol of peace for those who would believe. Led by Morpheus, these true believers are ridiculed for their fervent search for Neo’s remains.

While the Merovingian mocks Morpheus’ search, his lieutenants seem strangely intent on shadowing his every move; and despite the common belief that the Machines retain the One’s body, automated trace programs devote unusual attention to every iteration of Neo’s name. Rumors spread of inexplicable emanations within the Matrix, granting vast power to those who can find and control them.

Within the Matrix, where there is power, there is strife. Only one Organization will rise triumphant. Will it be the Machines with their surgical precision and dogged commitment to the preservation of balance? The Zionites with their devout duty to protect Zion at all costs? Or the Exiles with their calculated cunning and masterful manipulations?

Join Morpheus, Niobe, the Merovingian, Flood, Agent Skinner, Agent Gray and thousands of redpills from across the globe to determine humanity's fate.

Will you risk annihilation to unlock the truth?

On April 6th, the race begins.

Trust us when we say: You won’t want to miss it!
(support call is done back to the post)

There are 3 faction. Zion, Machines, and Exiles (Programs that flee to the matrix rather then be deleted). Exiles being the faction the Maravenchian (sp?) was on in the movies. So you have humans, humans that were unplugged and think The Matrix is now a better place to live then the real world, and Humans that work for the exiles (though personally I have no clue what advantage there would be there)

On my server Exiles seems to be the strongest faction, followed by Zion, followed by Machines. I have choosen to fight on the machine faction because a guild I want to join is on it. I was leary at first but then I thought about it and Machines makes alot more since then Exiles so why not right?

Now mind you I either wasn't there for much of the next paragraph or was to low level to participate since I was still in newbie mode but here is kinda sorta whats going on.... I THINK.

Later it was revealed when the Playersspoke to the Architect that since Neos "death" and the repair of the matrix there has been alot of corruption. The Oracle suggested they take the code fragments and find someone or someONES named "Shaper". This turned into a giant 3 way battle for control of the shaper that turned up. Long and the short? A 4 party took control of the shaper and is useing he/she/it to created code abberations all over the matrix. Tonight I had to leave before the big evening events started up. I figure it was gonna be bad because well.. its been raining in the matrix all day. Kinda like at the end of Revolutions.
The above paragraph is whats going on RIGHT now, its not the end, its just one story being run inside the Matrix.

Your first level will be over by the time you finish the tutorial, your be their shortly after running a few missions.Primary mission you can get by bringing up your contact list and making a cell phone call to them. Primary missions could send you anyway. Local mission you can't call on the phone, you have to find them and go talk to them, but they will be mission in the area they are located in.

Because of server issues the Primary missions were not workign properly on Saturday so I did alot of local missions, by level 4 I kinda had a feel for combat but still felt like a newbie. Fast forward to today I just hit level 8. The game reminds me that I'm not a newbie anymore and that when I die I am weak for a while after jacking back into the matrix... bummber.. I still FEEL like a newbie.

There is alot in this game. I'm not sure if I love it or hate it yet... but I'm interested to say the least.

Soldier, not that it matters. As a 8th level Soldier specialized in Martial Arts I could become any other class or specialist simply by having enough i$ (information aka money) to buy the skills and rearrage them.

You have a memory capacity (thats grows some as you level) and you load you skills into it. So you can't know everything at once. Its a tough balance and at level 6 I was already having to make some tough decisions.

Of course you pick your stats by what you want to do. So I COULD be a Hacker (wizard) by buying the skills but my stats right now are NOT built for it. But nothing stops me form doing so. Or by spending the extra skill point I get per level to catch the proper stat up.

Pardon the typos but here is a quick run down of the announcement made tonight to those on the Machines side by Agent Skinner
    [Prepare for secure broadcast]

I have important information that requies your immedate attention.

The reports of intruders having abducted the Exile program, known at the Shaper, are true.

Our analysis indicates that thisShaper has been used to repurpose the anomalus fragements.

    Two undesireable results have followed.

First, the false Agents are using the Shaper to create thougsands upon thousands of... corruptions.

The corruptions have a distinctive appearance. I am sure many of you have already seen them begin to mass withing the matrix.

Second, they have used the currupted fragment code to give themselves an... unusal amount of power.

We suspect they will be initiating and all out attack presently.

We must delete the false Agents who are created the corruptions.

You will gecognize them when you see them. They will emit some... anomalous manifestation.

    Prepair youselves for battle.

The Matrix must be cleansed immediately.

Please temporarily disregard the activities of the Zionites and the Merovingians.

We must focus all our attention on these corruptions.

If we do not eradicate them immediately, we may be forced to reset the Matrix.

Disperse, and spread the word. The Machine forces will not tolerate these... aberrations.

Farewal then, I shall update you in due time.
What followed was one of the largest battles yet in the game (or so I'm told I was driving to work at the time) and I'm not sure how it ended. Needless to say all 3 sides HAD to fight together to beat these "false agents". After it was over I know all 3 sides went right back to killing each other.

Personally... I think this "4th side" must be smith... perhaps he like Neo is not 100% "gone" from the Matrix.

    UPDATE.

Well most people on machine faction ran to the location that was given a few min after that speech and found the false agents in the part, they killed and killed and killed and they just kept coming. After a long time someone called "Agent5" spawned and rained lighting down on everything (keep in mind its been raining all day) and everyone had to split into 2 groups (pound away at Agent5 because it was almost impossible to hit, and keep the spawning "false agents" off those killing agent5.

At end end of the battles the skies cleared for the first time today and there was a sunrise. Seems whatever or whoever it is, was defeated for now.

Hrm... the false agents were called N3O-AG3NTS. The "big boss" was called Agent5... or should that be AgentS. Interesting...

    Hello,

Is there any single player mode if you decide to drop the account????

It sounds interesting enough - except the part of not doing the actual hand to hand. That's whats so much fun in ENTER THE MATRIX. Actually doing all the insane stunts....

Do they take paypal for the server fees????

    Kevin
Donatello - The Shredder? Michelangelo - Maybe all that hardware is for making coleslaw?

No, like every single MMO ever there is no built in single player mode.

As far as paypal, not that I saw when I signed up.

Not sure what you mean by not doing actual hand to hand. you pick specific moves to do with the timing of the battle. Its very involved.

Yoda means there is no realtime fighting.

But this allows for a more stylized fight. Fight choreography for this game is quite deep. Many, Many, Many fight animation variations.
