Since you're using Nero Recode, one presumes that you are ALSO using AnyDVD or some similar deprotector.

Make sure you have the LATEST AnyDVD or DVD Decrypter in order to rip these new protected discs.

I just backed up my new copy of Flight of the Phoenix, Widescreen, Region 1. I used DVDDecrypter to rip the movie, shrink to eliminate all of the extras (reauthor), and everything went very smoothly. I killed the ending credits, and was able to fit on a single layer disk with no compression needed.

  4. I used AnyDVD and Shrink to back this up without any problems as usual.

My Region 1 Widescreen version was RCE (Region Code Enhanced) protected with the usual CSS encryption, but nothing out of the norm. No Sony ARccOS, puppetlock or the likes.

  5. It appears as though the problem is with recode, not movie itself. I ended up using shrink with out any problems.

  8. I have been playing around with this DVD and there are definitely issues.
This includes 2 different copies of the DVD.
It is a region 1 widescreen dvd. The box has a new logo on it that says "copy protected".
I experimented using the newest available DVDDeCryptor, AnyDVD, CloneDVD2 & DVDShrink on 2 different machines.
All situations result in problems early into ripping the 06_4.vob file. On my main system, all programs fail on read errors part way into ripping the 06_4.vob file.

On my backup machine, I only have a dvd-rom drive (BTC). It will actually sucessfully rip the 06_4.vob file using DVDDeCryptor, but all attempts to process the resulting ripped file cause program failures part way through the 06_4.vob file (CloneDVD2 & DVDShrink).

Even playing the dvd's are problematic. They lock-up WinDVD on my main system (part way into chapter 24), then cause the program to jump to chapter 25. On my standalone dvd player, excessive amunts of tiling occurs in a number of places in chapter 24, but it does keep going.

So, either this is another misguided attempt at copy prevention resulting in unplayable (or at least very poor quality) dvd's - or a bad run of dvd's have been produced and are showing up in the market place.

I exchanged the first copy of "Flight of the Phoenix" for a replacement due to defects. I am returning the 2nd copy and demanding my money back for the same reason later today.

My advice if you rent or buy this dvd is to check chapter 24 - (the 06_4.vob file) very carefully for flaws and problems. Do not tolerate poor quality products. And - this movie isn't very good once you get past the exciting plane crash scenes anyway . . . . go for the original Jimmy Stewart version - it is a classic!

I get the above error message with all the back ups I've tried, even after reinsatall of nero.

    *sigh*

People, you MUST use the LATEST AnyDVD or DVD Decrypter. Go to their web site and download the LATEST version. If you rip the disc with DVD Decrypter 3.5.2.0, then you will NOT have errors processing the files. Period. End of story.

  12. Regarding my post about "Flight of the Phoenix":
If you read it, you will see I specifically said I used the latest versions of everything (DVDDeCryptor and AnyDVD) and it still failed at the same place on 2 different copies of the DVD.
I also said maybe these were simply part of a run of defective dvd's, since they had problems playing also - in the same spots.
I returned the 2nd copy as defective and got my money refunded (store crediit) If this IS some form of copy protection (like the cover suggests) designed to generate more sales, it is failing miserably.

You may have just hit a movie that Recode doesn't like. Try Shrink and see if that helps.

  20. The 3rd copy of this dvd that I tried from a completely different source on the other coast of the country worked fine with DVDDeCryptor. There appear to be a number of defective dvd's of this title floating around in the marketplace. They should all be returned as defective, like I did.
