  1. I have been playing around with final cut pro 4 on a G4. Ive heard macs are supposed to be really good at video edting, but theres one thing i cant get over..

There is no real time preview in final cut pro.

or is there? i have only tried dragging a few quicktime clips into it and it seems everytime i do something to the clip, i have to do a preview render. Maybe i will get used to doing this or something, but i heard macs were supposed to be pretty good.

    Please prove me wrong!

  2. you must turn on unlimited rendering in one of the preference panels.

i use both vegas and fcp4 also, but the vegas preview while nice to have is not the most accurate all the time.

one thing i have always had issues with is cutting in vegas. this is more intuitive in fcp4.

in fcp4 the preiew may not work if the scene requires too much cpu or if the input file is not the same as the sequence template (i.e. mpeg1 file in a DV template)

also fcp4 does not work directly with .dv files. it WILL work with DV files that are wrapped in a .mov - i found this out the hard way.

    Hi Guys!
I also reccommend you pick up a copy of Jerry Hoffman's book
as we often reference it here ( at least I know I do)
    regarding problems with FCP/FCE.

For instance, page 31 talks about the User Preferences panel pointing
toward the "Render Control" tab, which is where you set the amount
of CPU dedicated to real time rendering, and it also talks about the
types of files FCP can use and import.
