Ok, I have been using DVD Shrink 3.2 for a while now and have had great results. Now, with no changes to my computer, all the DVD's I backup are jittery in my external players. They play fine on my computer, so I am clueless. I am a newbie, kind of, and I want to know, what is the best program for backup like DVD Shrink. Thanks for anyone who helps!!

Are you using -R or +R media, what brand name is it?
How old is your stand alone DVD player and brand?

Quote, ...have had great results..". What then makes you think Shrink is the problem?

Not trying to promote Shrink, but it sounds like the problem might lie elsewhere. Look at it this way, if nothing has changed in your computer and nothing has changed as far as your media goes, something is different if you now have problems.

Maybe inconsistent media? Or problems with your burner? Or a newer type of DVD that might cause problems?

As far as better ways to backup? Re-encode with TMPGEnc or other MPEG-2 encoders is one way, but much slower than Shrink.

There are other similar programs to Shrink, they may work better, but you said Shrink was working before.

One of the first things I would try is to reduce the default size of the file in Shrink. This is especially useful if the video breaks up toward the end. If so this is one sign of media problems.

You can use tools to check the condition of the burned discs. You might try https://www.videohelp.com/tools?tool=Nero_CD-DVD_Speed to test them.
