Most likely you have everthing you need to get started. If you purchased a DVD burner most likely it came with software for creating DVD's playable on a regular DVD player. Most of that stuff is junk though but there's nothing wrong with using it to get an idea of howw things work.

you need a dvd burner. You need software to convert your video to MPEG2 format (unless it already is). You need software to author and burn your dvd. I suggest you buy a dvd burner that comes with some authoring software and download the free trial of tmpegenc. If it is only a 20 second clip and it isn;t high quality i suggest making VCDs instead. Read the HowTo section.

It's a cd burner that will play DVD's.

Your combo unit will read CD's and DVD's but only write to CD's.

thanks everybody i guess my first step is to start over and actually buy a dvd burner. Any links that were sent to me i bookmarded so that i have something to read up on in the future.
