  1. I converting a Divx file to DVD for the first time. I set up TMPGEnc according to the instructions at Lord Smurf's site: http://www.digitalfaq.com/convert/tmpgenc/tmpgencplus.htm

I have a 2Ghz P4 with 640 MB RAM. TMPGEnc is estimating that the encode will take 13 hours. Could it really take that long?

Yup. I routinely see times over 8 hours on a full length movie. TMPGEnc is just SLOOOOOOOOOW.

You might have some other issue though, check to make sure that it knows that your machine has SSE/SSE2/MMX, etc.

  3. You are probably using 2-pass VBR. This is just CQ mode.

  4. I turned off 'noise reduction' and now the estimate is 3 hours.
