I'm trying to lock down a problem on my system. I want to rule out the possiblility of a Ram problem. During post it shows the proper amount of ram and winXP shows the full GIG of ram in dual channel.
Assuming it's the ram.
My cmos has the dimm setting to 2.6, the ram setting can be 2.5 (+- .1). So that looks good but... one of the items to try would be to up that number further... 2.7... 2.8.
Am I realy looking for trouble at those numbers or ar they still safe?
I've already tried switching the ram in different bays (breaking up the dual channel bays)

Don't give in to DVD2ONE, that leads to the dark side.

How much does it say you have on POST? Is there a difference between what it says in XP? Try downloading CPU-Z and see if it recognizes the RAM properly. Post a screendump of what CPU-Z outputs about your memory.
I wouldn't mess much with the memory voltages, you can torch your memory pretty easy that way. Is there an auto setting on your VDIMM?FB-DIMM are the real cause of global warming -

if you're having probs at the stock settings upping the voltage is going to do anything but help. is that corsair value? dont mess with it, trust me. hynix sucks.
what exactly is your computer doing? -
Check the SPD tab and see that all DIMMs are running at the correct values.

Same problem
I tried moving the ram chips to different slots and it ran twice without a hitch. I'll be home all day tomorrow... I'll run a bunch of tests then.Don't give in to DVD2ONE, that leads to the dark side. -

I've never had memory errors on either PC I built for home. I'd return those sticks if you can because that could very well be causing your problems. And if it isn't what is causing this problem it will cause problems later on.

The MemTest86+ floppy image is a lot better for testing your memory - you could use that to test any other sticks.

Seems intermitent
Pulled one stick out and ran Memtest went to 200% with no errors. Replaced it with the other stick, also 200% no errors. Replaced both sticks in the MOBO recomended slots, also 200% no errors.
The memtest web page says that not all error are bad memory.
Doesn't seem to be any real way to lock down if it's bad memory. Don't know if I can return the ram chips. Was bought from a specialty store so they won't just hand me my money back they will want to help fix the problem. Since it's intermitant and I have no definative proof... I guess I'll have to wait till it compleatly stops working or if I always get errors.Don't give in to DVD2ONE, that leads to the dark side. -

After LOTS of tests the recommendation in the other thread at Doom9 seems to work great.
I left one stick in the dual channel and moved the other to the third slot.
I ran ten straight encodes to test it and they all ran fine.
Guess that's it.
Thanks for eveybody input.Don't give in to DVD2ONE, that leads to the dark side.
