Okay... I'm not sure what to call this but I created a back up of a DVD last night using DVD Shrink and noticed that there is an onscreen menu that allows you to jump within that particular section of the movie (it's also there on the original DVD). It appears to be player generated and looks just like subtitles do. When I hit stop on my DVD player and then play again, the menu disappears from the screen until I skip forward to the next chapter where it appears again. If I hit stop and then play each time this menu appears, it goes away once again. It appears to move to different locations at the beginning of most chapters.
My question is, how do I remove this annoying menu from my back up? Is it possible that this floating menu is being generated as a subtitle of some sort?
Thanks.

What kind of dvd player do you have then? You say it is player generated. Does this happen with other movies?

I have a Panasonic DVD-F87K. This is the only DVD that I have ever seen that does this. Both the orginal DVD and my backup DVD-R have this strange onscreen menu on both my Panasonic DVD player as well as the PowerDVD 5 software that's installed on my PC.
I'm actually not sure if the player is generating this menu or not. I'm just assuming that's the case because it looks similar to player generated subtitles and it disappears when I hit stop and then play again (so it's definitely not superimposed on the actual video). I have never seen anything like it. -
In case anyone digs this meassage thread up, I think that I figured out a solution or at least a partial solution. I used IfodEdit to demux the VOB files into video, audio, and subtitle files. I then remuxed just the audio and video back together. After that I opened the new VOB files in DVD Shrink along with two of the extra feature titles from the original set of VOB files and then reauthored a new DVD. I then burned what I came up with and popped the new DVD-R disc in to my DVD player and the floating menu was gone. Of course I have no menus now but I guess I can live with that until I figure out how to add menus back to my newly authored DVD.

Oh man... I of course had to do things the hard way!
You know, I think I did notice the check box for subtitles when I was re-encoding the resulting VOB files with DVD Shrink. Of course that was after the little demux/remux trick. I'll have to give this back up one more shot when I get home tonight. -
I haven't tried stripping the subtitles using DVD Shrink yet. I'll give that a shot for the sake of curiousity when I get home from work later today. This particular DVD is an... um... "adult" title and the menu screen that I am talking about is floating on top of the video and allows for jumping to various parts within each segment. Other than that, there don't appear to be any other subtitles on the disc so I can probably get away with stripping them all off when I re-author.
I have never seen a menu screen that looks or works quite like this one. I guess I'll know what to do if I ever encounter this type of thing in the future. -
follow the white rabbit. This technique was used on the Matrix to branch out of the movie. Somewhere in your Shrinking you have switched the default streams and this is the result. You can either strip the subs entirely, and loose this function, or set the default subtitle stream back to where it should be in Shrink.
