  1. I've searched the forums and I've found a few articles, but none that answer all my questions.

    here's my scenario
    1) I have 2 Fight DVD's. They are great, but I don't like all the talking in between the fights.
    2) I want to take the VOB files and edit the two DVD's together into one 2 hour long movie. Preferably with transitions and custom titles if need be.
    3) I want to author the DVD.

Steps 1 and 3 are not the problem. I have a problem finding a good (cheap) way of editing the movies. I've tried a few trials of Vegas and Tmgpenc Xpress, and DVD-Lab Pro, but with no luck.

DVD-Lab pro will De-multiplex to .ac3 and .mpv.
Vegas 5 won't accept the .mpv file.
Tmpegenc will export the .vobs to .mpg, but won't decode the .ac3 audio file.

Would it be best to use Tmpgenc to vob->mpg and use DVD-Lab to ac3->wav and import both files seperatley into Vegas?

Is there an easier way to do this?

  2. Thanks so much, dang that was quick. I didn't even think about frameserving (i'm a pc editing newbie, Final Cut is my area).

Which method to you personally prefer?

there's a small program called VOB2MPEG someone posted in the forum here and it's free. it converts your vobs to mpeg2 files. Then let dvdauthor import your mpeg video files for authoring. do a search for it and use!

    Another idea:

Use "MPEG2Schnitt" you can download here (it's freeware):

    http://www.mdienert.de/mpeg2schnitt/

First you have to demux to elementary streams. Then open in MPEG2Schnitt, and ṿila.

I use this prog (English language is choosable) for cutting commercials out my movies, and it works real fine.

  5. Thanks for all the helpful info. I used the trial of Womble to edit the first video. It works much better than i thought and since, i assume, it isn't re-encoding the video it didn't take very long to export the video. I'm working through remote desktop from work and have't been able to tell if the audio works yet, but i'll post my findings in about 30 minutes.

I'm assuming that after i edit the other files my total movie lenght will be around 2hr 20min. Would it be best to use the highest BITrate available to export and then make the DVD and use DVDShrink to get the whole thing down to the right size?

Yes, of course! But, if possible (choosable) in your encoder, use variable bitrate (VBR) with max datarate (8 Mbps) and then "shrink" it to DVD-R - size!
    Wish you success, Mirko.

  7. There are lots of different ways to do what you want to do. One of the simplest is just to use Womble, go into TOOLS -> CONVERT VIDEO FORMAT, choose mpg for both VOBs, then using TMPGenc to join both mpegs after you cut 'em with womble. The only difference twixt a VOB file and an MPEG file, BTW, is that the VOB file has a bunch of header info which shows up as a delay on the audio. Some mpeg editing programs will let you compensate for this right inside the program and join or edit VOB files directly.
