    Hello,

Yep - but fortunately more and more appliances are "smart" enough to change on their own!

I have a vcr from 97 - my 4 head stereo vcr - that changes automatically. Of course the computer does - and has since win 95. Then there's the xbox - does it on its own

But of course theres all the other clocks - and the CAR CLOCK! Doh - got to do that one.....

  4. I almost forgot, but they mentioned it on the news. I have some items that update automatically, but most do not. Also don't forget to change your smoke detector batteries.....

Especially in the winter, wouldn't we save energy if we didn't have to turn our lights on at 4pm ?

I agree,it should be the other way around.
History:Ben Franklin came up with this idea in 1784 when farmers needed more daylight to bring in the crops, ironically most farmers nowadays oppose DST.

You would think somebody would have figured that out, so does anybody know why we still do it?

  12. It was reinstated back in the 60's. Most people I know prefer it. Personally, it doesn't make that much difference to me, and I just started this thread as a reminder...

Has anyone completely ever forgotten about DST and arrived at work either one hour early or late.

  14. I forgot about DST once years ago, when I didn't have a TV and avoided commercial radio. As a result I showed up for an appointment one hour late. It never happened again....

The theory is that a lot of people like having more sunlight during their leisure time in the Summer. That's the theory, anyway. I don't think most people really care, though. It was probably just some touchy feely thing instituted a long time ago.

The really sad thing is that when we switch back to standard time, it always happens just before Halloween ... meaning kids accustomed to a little twilight have to go out when it's pitch dark or close to it ... and might not be as careful as they should be when crossing streets. If they've really GOT to have this time-switch stuff, they should make the switch back to standard time on the first Sunday following Halloween.

But frankly, I wish we didn't have the switches at all.

I wonder how much farming ol' Ben did, hehehe. Heck, farmers back then didn't use alarm clocks, they used roosters. :P

Daylight Savings in Australia ceased last week for our winter.

I had to fix some clocks even though some things as automatic.

Anyway, Britain, Europe and Russia started Daylight Savings on the same day as Australians reverted one hour of our clocks on 27 March 2005.

  20. I really don't see the point in DST. I was in Indiana for 6 months (a farming state) and they don't shift clocks at all.

Queensland and Western Australia don't have DST either as would elsewhere in Australia.

I am amazed that some people still whine on DST even though having it 5 months a year for a long time in Sydney.

Sure I did notice before that Indiana, near Chicago is as always the same time zone regardless what time is elsewhere in the US.

I thought there is another area in the US which doesn't have DST?
