I'm contemplating some hardware between the VCR and the capture device, however I would like to minimize the number of interconnects in the chain. Are there any reasonably good combination full-frame TBC / high-quality processor amps / image detailers that provide "all in one" capability as well as a good amount of flexiblity for a reasonable price?

Oh, and of course, s-video inputs and outputs

I may be asking for the moon here... but it'd be nice if such a device exists....

Have a look at this thread: https://www.videohelp.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=239205

Thats going to be tough to find. Maybe a good used piece on ebay. In the end you may have to go the way most have. That is using te daisy-chain of equipment.

  3. Most professional type TBC's also include proc amp controls. Look for a recent single rack space model that is full frame (one way to tell for sure is if it has freeze and strobe functions), has s-video inputs and outputs, etc. The newer units don't usually require external sync.

The biggest disadvantage is that you normally can't defeat the TBC or proc amp separately. If you want to use the proc amp adjustments, the TBC generally has to be on.

Hotronic, I.DEN, FOR-A, Prime Image, DPS/Leitch, Feral, Microtime... look for these brands on eBay. They all have decent reputations.

The DataVideo TBC-3000 is a dual TBC with proc amp controls; no image detailing though. I have one and find the proc amp controls to be very effective for SVHS, VHS and Beta tapes.

There is currently one up for auction on EBay...

I prefer separate units, they tend to be more powerful.
