Hehe, I am not there

I'm there from an old address in OC, which I moved from four years ago. So that result would be useless for anyone.
I'm also there on an address in Vegas when I lived there over two years ago, and interestingly, I'm also under my old neighbors address that I forwarded my mail to for a while, though I never lived at my neighbors home. This would tell me that they got some of their info from postal forwarding, or directly from the USPS.
I'm not there for my current address, here in CA. I've been living at this address over two years now, and I don't show up. I have a feeling that could be because I never had any mail forwarded to this address. Even though I own a home under my name, apparently they are not indexing names from property records, or I'd be in there already.
My driver's license address is a friend's home one town away from here, and I don't show up at his address, either. So they aren't getting info from driver's license data, as I've used his address for this purpose since 2001. I never got rid of my CA D.L. even when I lived in Vegas.
Also, my current phone # is unlisted/unpublished, which also makes a difference. Since it only costs a few cents a months to have an unlisted #, IMO it's worth the money to stay out of as many databases as possible.
So I'm off the radar screen for now.
I'd like to keep it that way, though I'm not hiding anything, I don't like my personal info out there any more than necessary.
On another note, I found the address of an old GF from when I was in Jr.Hi School just a few days ago. I googled her name, and it came up in a genealogy site that her (apparent) husband put up. Then I googled his name and came up with an address and phone #, and from there it was easy to locate property records in their county online. So I now know where they live, how much they paid for the house and taxes.
I haven't contacted her, but might surprise her with a birthday card this year. I haven't seen or talked to her in 32 years. Might be interesting to see what she's been up to...or maybe I should let sleeping dogs lie.Ethernet (n): something used to catch the etherbunny -
I think they use phone company/utility databases because the USPS doesn't ask for phone numbers.
Definatly good advice about getting your phone number unlisted. -
There's no doubt they're using the phone co. database, but that's well known and free to anyone. Just using google will find this info. What was more interesting was that my forwarding address from my neighbor showed up, and I don't know what USPS database they're accessing.
At least I've managed to disappear, sort of. I don't like seeing my name on some easily accessible website, for sure.
However, any time you subscribe to a magazine, your address will be sold. If you enter a contest, your address will be sold. Almost anything you do, where you give your address or phone #, it will be sold to someone, and then out there for anyone to see.
If you don't want this to happen, don't enter any kind of contest that requires personal info. Read all privacy policies on websites that you buy stuff from. Don't give out your SSN to anyone that doesn't have an absolute need to have it.
It's pretty hard to maintain your privacy in today's world, but you can at least lessen the chances your name will be sold by taking some precautions.
If you own a house, your name is public record, and you can search most counties in the US if you have a street address or APN (Assessor's Parcel Number). Anyone will know your name, address, spouse's name (if the house is in her name too), how much you paid, and in some instances, the size of the home and parcel.
It's really quite scary that anyone can find out almost anything about you if they really want to.Ethernet (n): something used to catch the etherbunny -
I don't know where they get the info. They had my mother listed under my sons' old address. She was never at his apartment.

Yes, it's interesting. Just like I didn't live at my neighbors, yet there was my name under their address. The only way it got there was because I forwarded mail there for a short time in 2002. There is no other way it could happen.
They definitely got it from the Post Office. The only thing I don't know is how.
Did your mom ever have any kind of mail sent under her name to your son's address? If so, that's how it happened.
Just shows how careful you have to be. Too much information out there, IMHO.Ethernet (n): something used to catch the etherbunny -
As far as I know she never had anything sent there. They also had my birth date listed under my sons' old address. We do have the same name so I can see them making that mistake. I do think most of the info comes from mailing list addresses.

Oh, how very, very, very wierd.
The only people listed there under my name (about 10x as many in the states as i've found in the UK, by the way...... that is..... about 12 in total)...... ALL and I do mean ALL have the same middle initial as me.
That is just ******* freaky. As if any married couple with my surname had a child, christened them with the same forename.... and decided that a middle name with that particular initial was the ONLY right choice.
There's no-one of my name without a middle initial, or anyone with a different one. And no, I DIDNT enter it on the form.
Feeling very odd now.-= She sez there's ants in the carpet, dirty little monsters! =-
Back after a long time away, mainly because I now need to start making up vidcapped DVDRs for work and I haven't a clue where to start any more! -
This thing is almost 10 years out of date for a lot of people I know. Totally useless.
