Its a samsung dvd p230. The problem with it is that it will freeze up (every use) and then it wont read any dvds or cds for a long time. After the freeze up anything I put in spins very slowly. If it were any slower i could almost read the labels. Any idea what the problem is and how to go about to trying to fix it?
The freezing mostly tends to happen when skipping around on the movie if that helps anyone, but also just during playback. Any suggestions would be appreciated.

Oh, that's so easy to fix for 30 or 40$, just to get a new one.
I am waiting for my old one(s) to break but it just keep working.ktnwin - PATIENCE -
Try unplugging it and plugging it back in. If that doesn't work then unplug it and drop it from a height of 2 meters or so, that should fix it good.

If that doesn't help try ZippyP's suggestion. -
I really dont wanna buy a different one because this one has a feature i really like called EZView.
I know someone out there is smart enough to figure this one out. -
Search the net for Sams repair FAQ.
Do you really want to risk getting struck by a laser beam? -
I did a Google search for that player and found the following excerpt from a user review which I thought was humorous.
"Summary:
Cheap DVD player. Samsung was always bottom feeders and still are.
Strengths:
Cheap
Weaknesses:
Has a tough time dealing with most DVD discs."
Sorry, that cracked me up.
But, to your problem. That sounds like an overheating issue. When a player has a hard time reading a disc, it goes over and over the disc, causing overheating of the laser and the drive. This just causes more errors until everything is unreadable.
If the disc comes out of the player and it's hot, then that's the problem. Better cooling would help. Pull the case off and see if it still over heats. Maybe add a fan if you don't want to replace the player.
Try cleaning the laser first thing. Even a speck of dust can cause the seeking and overheating problems. Canned air is a good start. Blast some in there when the drive is cool. If no luck, then a cleaning disc sometimes works. Better is to clean the lens with a foam or Q tip with denatured alcohol and see if that helps. If no luck, dispose of the player and replace it. -
Samsung=trash, some of the most problem plagued products known to man. Buy a better one next time.
