what does shrink offer that others don't?

Hi there, excuse me for my lack of knowledge in this area but what exactly makes shrink so sought after when using decrypter? I am to understand that decrypter is the prg. that actually removes copyright and shrink allows you to edit what actually gets burnt on your dvdr while maintaining quality, is QUALITY the key word here? Just wondering why dvdclone2 and decrypter don't get alot of praise and so on, I am assuming anydvd does the same as decrypter. PLease help me fill in the gaps...Give me an example of what shrink does that dvdclone2 doesn't do.
I find this somewhat confusing due to the so many conflicting opinions as to what software to use together? With the author now work for Nero and no time spent on shrink what will be the alternative or am I thinking to far in advance.

DVD Decrypter is popular for DVD ripping, copying and burning, and it's free.

DVD Shrink will rip and transcode, and can use Decrypter for burning to disk. It's the transcoding which seperates the two, it allows a dual layer disk to be shrunk to fit a single layer DVD...hence the name. It is also free.

Anydvd runs in the background and allows a DVD from outside your geographic region to be played on your PC.

ps, Sometimes Decrypter is first used to rip a disk when shrink has trouble with it, shrink can then be used afterwards.

DVD Shrink decrypts and will also shrink the file so that it will fit on a
DVD. DVD Decypter just descrypts. I use Decrypter on videos that Shrink can not decrypt. I also like the DVD burning capability of Decrypter so I frequently use it burn the DVD after Shrink has reduced the file size to something that will fit onto a DVD.

True. There's no reason anymore to pay for this kind of software. Shrink is fine, and for the discs that require enough compression that Shrink encodes have artifacts, there is the free DVDRebuilder and Hank's free encoder (which some have said even outdoes CCE's quality, albeit at a time cost).

Is Recode better? I've been using Shrink w/ deep analysis and I use AEC only on <60% compression.

I don't really care about the money if it gets me a better quality backup.

I meant I don't care about the $50 or whatever over Shrink if I get a much better backup. I own over 100 DVDs. You think I can purchase them all over again for $50 or so?

I have found the quality of DVD Shrink quite good when viewed on a Hitachi 53" projection screen. I do a lot of video production and while I can tell the difference between the original and compressed movie, my family cannot.

If you have one of the new dual-layer burners, then Shrink is really nice for putting 2-disc movies on one dual-layer DVD.

Rip the movie only from each disc and shrink it to 4gig. Open DVD Shrink and set it to the 8gig setting then open the files for disc 2and select re-author. Drag and drop the movie, then open the other disc and drag and drop the movie from disc 1. Double check to make sure that disc 1 starts first and you can edit the start and end points of both discs so that disc 2 begins playing immediately a the end of disc 1. You can recompress to fit it on a smaller DVD, but quality will suffer accordingly.

DVD Shrink 3.2 is the bomb.

I must say that while it will rip, shrink and burn all in one, I still use DVD Decrypter followed by DVD Shrink and I'll burn with Nero 6 Ultra. I've only once encountered a disc I couldn't copy and that was only because it was a damaged disc. Ripping and burning is effortless and I can do three movies in one evening.

I also agree that while DVD Shrink is free, donations are the appropriate thing to do. It's like tipping a waitress for good service. Everyone does it, but few people think about showing the same appreciation for the freeware authors who make our lives much more fun. If you use a freeware product and enjoy its use, why not tip them for quality products?

Yep, I have done this w/ the LOTR's extended trilogy, Pearl Harbor director's "R" cut and Doctor Zhivago just to name a few. Ripped w/ decrypter in file mode, reauthor and shrink, then burn iso with decrypter. Awesome free programs that I can't stop recommending, and yes, make donations if you feel you have received something of value to you.
